What’s On The Menu: Family Meal Planning

Hi Guys! Today, I have a post for you about Family Meal Planning. I don’t know about all of you, but unless I take a list with me to the grocery store, I will spend so much money on things that I don’t need to buy. This is why I have started planning my meals! I have been doing it for about a month now, and I have been saving a lot of money. I used to spend $100-$200 at the grocery store every week, and now I spend about $50 a week. Here’s what I do:

1. I made a list of all of the meals that I usually cook for dinner, and then I let my husband pick out 5 meals for dinner that week. I chose to only plan 5 meals per week because we usually eat out twice a week. We usually get pizza on Saturday night, and we usually go out to eat at a restaurant once a week.

2. After he picks out the meals he wants, I write them all down on a magnetic whiteboard that I got for the fridge. You don’t have to get a whiteboard, I just think they’re fun to write on. Here’s what we are having this week:

3. Then, I make my grocery list for the week. I only write down the things I will need to make these meals. Of course, I include other things, like fruit, veggies, snacks, paper plates, or anything else that we may need for the week. My daughter and I eat breakfast and lunch at home most of the week, so I buy the things we will need for that also.

4. When you go to the grocery store, make sure you stick to your list! I know that the cookie aisle may be calling you…but try to resist the urge!

You will really be amazed by how much money you will save, and the best thing is that you never have to worry or think about what to make for dinner! You will have all of the ingredients you need already in your fridge.

I think it is important to always eat dinner together as a family. I know it makes me happy to sit down with my family after a long day. 🙂
