Hi guys! One of the most asked questions that I get from my readers are about the makeup brushes that I use. There are so many different types of brushes and all different brands out there to choose from. Some are cheap, and some are expensive, so it’s hard to figure out what brushes to buy. I do not think you need to spend a lot of money on brushes to get a good makeup application. It was hard to choose which ones to show you all; I have a lot of brushes and a lot of favorites, but I narrowed it down to 6.
Sigma Tapered Highlighter F35 – this is a great pointed brush that I like to use two ways. I can use this to set my under eye concealer by dabbing a little bit of setting powder just on the tip and pressing it gently under my eyes. I also can use this to apply a powder highlight. I use highlight right over the tops of my cheekbones, right on top of where I apply blush. This brush is very soft and makes applying just a little bit of highlight easy. I would not use this brush with a liquid or cream highlighter, it isn’t very dense and I don’t think it would do a good job of blending…but with powder, it’s perfect.
Real Techniques Expert Face Brush – I know I have talked about this brush before, but it is a really great brush to use with liquid foundation. It is very dense, yet soft at the same time, so it really provides a flawless finish to the skin. I apply foundation with this brush by gently swirling the brush onto my face using circular motions. It is easy to work with and blends the foundation really nicely.
Bare Minerals Max Coverage Concealer Brush – this is a great brush to obviously use with the Bare Minerals powder concealer- Bisque or Well Rested. I also think it works very well with liquid or cream concealer too! I often use this brush with liquid concealer on the redness around my nose or with a tone correcting concealer in my under eye area. The bristles are larger than most concealer brushes I’ve seen, and I like that the concealer just glides on with this. It’s a great brush.
Sigma Large Powder F30 – This is a big fluffy powder brush. I am really not picky when it comes to powder brushes, I also have the ELF Powder Brush and it works well too. Just as long as the bristles are soft and they don’t shed all over the place, I’m happy. I do want to say that I only use this brush with setting powder, though. I don’t like this brush for applying powder foundation. It is not dense enough for that, and a more dense brush or kabuki works better.
Sigma Small Contour F05 – this was a tough one, but I do find myself always reaching for this brush to use with bronzer and contour. This brush is small enough to use around your forehead and jawline to apply your bronzer, but what I love it for is how it applies contour. It perfectly fits in the hollows of my cheekbones to carve out that perfect contour, and looks really natural. I like this better than using an angled contour brush.
Crown Brush Angled Blush – I do like using an angled brush to apply my blush. This brush is so soft and it’s so easy to get my blush in the right place with this. I like to apply my blush further back on my cheekbones rather than the apples of my cheeks, because I feel like it gives a more slimming and angled look to the face. This is a great brush to use for blush, but I’m sure any angled blush brush would do!
So, that’s it for my must-have face brushes! Shall I do a must have eye brush post? Let me know in the comments! What brushes are your favorite?
Thanks for reading! Have a great weekend! xx
LOVE Real Techniques brushes beyond reason:) Although I use that expert face brush for cream contour and use their dense kabuki-like brush for foundation. They’re just so dang good! But the best price is how affordable they are and the fact that they NEVER shed! Am I right?
I am going to try that brush for cream contour, good idea!! Yes, I love that they never shed! They are awesome!
Its funny that you did this post because just the other day I was poking through all my brushes, determining which ones were my favorites. Also to echo what Pretty Trippy said, the expert face brush is gorgeous with cream contour ( or highlight), I use it exclusively for my Chanel Tan de Soleil Bronze Universal.
XOXO

Thanks! I’m definitely going to try it that way! 🙂
Great post!!
