The 90’s Lip

Like acid wash, pogs, virtual pets, and Nsync, brown lips were a trend of the 90’s. I grew up in the 90’s, and I was a teen in the 90’s, and I remember this lip trend well. The brown-y pink lip with a defined liner. Who knew this trend would be back? Truth is, I’ve always worn this color. Mauve colored lips are often my choice for a “my lips but better” kind of look. From pale to dark skin, I feel like this color trend looks great on everyone!

Here are some perfect 90’s lip colors.

IPSY October 2014

Hi guys! It’s time for my monthly Ipsy post! This month I got some great things, so let’s get into it!

If you don’t know, IPSY is a beauty sample subscription box where you pay $10 a month (you can cancel anytime) and they send you a grab bag full of goodies based on your profile every month. Most of the time they send full size products! The value of what is in the box is always over $10, and it’s a great way to try out new products!

October’s theme is Beauty Candy, and the bag came with 2 full size products and 3 deluxe size samples. Everything came in a pretty teal vinyl quilted bag.

Figs & Rouge Rose Berry Hand Cream – 20ml Value $2.50
Epice Purifying Exfoliant – 30ml Value $10
In my opinion, you can never have enough hand cream! This one has the cutest packaging ever, and smells really good! I am excited to try the exfoliant- I love treatments like this, and I really like to exfoliate my skin daily.

Starlooks Mini Lipgloss in Guilty Pleasure – Value $4
Nicole By Opi Nail Color in Feeling Very Cherry – FULL SIZE Value $4
ModelCo Volum Eyes Mascara – FULL SIZE Value $20

This is the teeniest little lipgloss ever! The color is a really pretty, peachy pink. I love the nail color – I am all about the “oxblood” colored nails for fall/winter. I’m just “eh” about the mascara – I don’t really like trying new mascaras, but I’ll give this one a shot.

I’m pretty happy with what I got in my bag – however, I am getting kind of bored with it. I feel like it’s always the same kinds of products, and always the same brands. I’ll see what next month brings, though!

I paid $10 for this bag, and I received $40.50 worth of products! Not too bad at all!

What did you get in your bag this month?

Makeup Products I Regret Buying

Most of the time, before I buy a makeup item, I do a lot of research. I like to read reviews on Sephora or Makeupalley before buying, so I can be sure that I am buying the right product for me. Buuuut, sometimes I don’t read the reviews and impulse buy…or the reviews lead me wrong. Anyway, here are some products that I thought I would love, that just turned out to be flops.

IMG_0386.JPG

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette – I really don’t know what I was thinking when I bought this. I ALWAYS use shimmery eyeshadow shades, but for whatever reason, I thought this plain matte palette was something I needed. It has 6 shades, 3 of which are highlight shades. Why does a palette with only 6 shades need half of them to be highlights??? Don’t get me wrong, they are nice highlight shades, but why 3? The next two colors are just one really light brown, a medium brown. Boring. Just blah. The last shade is a matte black. Ok. I realize that this palette is supposed to be used in conjunction with another palette, but…I really don’t ever use this. I don’t know why I bought it!

NARS Larger Than Life Eye Pencil in Via Veneto – This is a black eyeliner pencil. Nothing really special about it, but everyone raves that it’s so good! I personally think that the Urban Decay 24/7 liners are better, and they’re cheaper. This NARS pencil is pretty hard and not very smudge-able. I’ll use this up, but I don’t think I’ll be purchasing it again.

MAC Lipstick in Angel – again, a product a lot of people love and rave about. This is a light pink lipstick with some shimmer that I can just not get to work on me. It’s a light pink shade, similar to MAC Creme Cup, but it just makes me look super washed out. I don’t know. I should have tried it before I bought it!

Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Cream Concealer Quad – I read about this product in a magazine saying how great it was. This concealer just looks so cakey and unnatural on me! The shades are light enough, but the product just doesn’t blend into the skin at all. It just kind of sits on top and looks caked on. I can’t get this to work for me.

Revlon Photoready Concealer – this concealer is shimmery! It isn’t creamy AT ALL, and it looks cakey. No.

MAC Prep & Prime in Radiant Rose – this is not a BAD product, by any means. I just wish I hadn’t wasted my money on it. This is a highlighting concealer pen, and I had been using the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Corrector in the shade Radiant, and it is almost the exact same thing as the MAC, except I prefer the Maybelline one. The consistency of the MAC pen was runnier, and did not cover as well as the Maybelline pen. I have a full post comparing these two here.

CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation – this foundation looked great when I first applied it, but it oxidized so badly that within an hour my face was orange! I even tried it with a primer, and it still turned me orange. Too bad, because I really think it would be a great foundation, it was lightweight and I like the packaging. The color just wasn’t for me.

Have you ever bought anything that you later regretted?

Thanks for reading!!

MAC Ladybug Lipstick Dupe + Swatches

IMG_0221-1.JPG

MAC Ladybug Lustre Lipstick is a tomato red color with a hint of orange to it. It is a great sheer lipstick for daytime or nighttime. Since it has a lustre finish, it gives off some shine. The color payoff is really good, and it is buildable if you prefer a more opaque look.

I came across a dupe for this lipstick while doing my A Red For Everyone post. The dupe I have for this is the Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple.

Here are the two swatched:

They’re really similar, and both give off a shiny finish!

MAC lipsticks retail for $15, while the lip butters retail for around $6, depending on what drugstore you go to.

Have you tried either of these shades?
