Moisturizing Dry Winter Skin

I’m not sure about y’all, but my skin is like a flaky desert right now!  Not only my skin, but my hair is dry too!  In these cold and dry winter months, adding more moisturizing products into your routine will help a lot to keep your skin looking soft and smooth.

Let’s start off with face products.  To get a nice makeup application, you’ve gotta start off with hydrated skin.  I like to use different moisturizers for day and night, in the daytime I always use a lightweight one with SPF.  My favorite of the moment is this Aveeno Smart Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer with SPF 30.  This is a really nice scented lightweight one.  It doesn’t leave me feeling greasy or shiny, and it dries quickly.

For nighttime, I love the Origins High Potency Night-a-Mins.  This is a thick cream reminiscent of a sleeping mask.  It has a yummy citrus scent, and when I wake up in the morning, my skin is so soft and hydrated.  I also have been really liking this Josie Maran Argan Oil Light.  You can use this pretty much ANYWHERE.  It works great as a facial moisturizer (just 3 drops), but you can also use it on your body, hair, and nails!

Now for face wash, I like to use one that I know will not dry out my skin, and this Purity from Philosophy is my favorite.  It makes my skin feel clean, but not stripped and dry.  Lastly, you have to moisturize your lips (especially with the matte lipsticks!) and I know it’s a splurge, but Dior’s Creme de Rose is my absolute favorite lip balm ever.  I apply it every night and it really helps keeps my lips flake free.  Plus, it smells like fresh cut roses, so it’s a must have for me!

So when you have dry skin on your body, you want to first make sure that you aren’t using a super drying body wash.  I like washes that are moisturizing and creamy so that I don’t feel like my skin is being stripped.  I like the Caress body washes, and this one is the Silkening one, so it’s really moisturizing.  Also, while you’re in the shower, it’s a good idea to use a deep conditioner or mask to combat dry hair.  This one from Neutrogena makes my hair so soft.    I usually apply this to my ends, leave it in for about 10 min, and then rinse it out.

I love to pile on the lotion.  Using a body moisturizer is important for keeping your skin looking soft and smooth.  My favorite is the LUSH Ro’s Argan because it smells amazing first of all, and secondly, it keeps my skin feeling moisturized and soft all day.  It doesn’t feel greasy and it absorbs quickly.

Now, don’t forget about your hands and feet!  For dry hands, get a nice thick hand cream and slather it on every chance you get. I like the Loccitane hand creams; they are thick, non greasy, and smell pretty and fresh.  Also, don’t forget your feet.  I like to use a minty foot cream like this one from  Earth Therapeutics and then put socks on to help seal in the moisture!

What products do you like for winter?

xx, amy
