Oh, we are gettin’ fancy today! Chicken Cordon Bleu is a Swiss dish that is made up of meat wrapped with cheese. This recipe takes a lot of prep, but the end result is worth it! A crispy but tender piece of chicken with melted Swiss, bacon, and ham inside? Yes, please! Let’s get started.
What you’ll need:
- 4 thinly sliced chicken breasts
- 2 tbsp butter
- 4 slices ham
- 4 slices swiss cheese
- 8 bacon strips
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c milk
- 1/2 c flour
- 1/4 c breadcrumbs
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1/4 c parmesan cheese
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lay chicken breasts on a sheet of parchment paper. Spread butter all over the slices, and then top each with a slice of ham and swiss.
Roll up as tightly as you can and secure with toothpicks.
Wrap two strips of bacon around each piece, and secure.
Mix your eggs and your milk together in one bowl. In a separate bowl, measure out your flour. In a third bowl, combine your breadcrumbs, garlic, oregano, and parmesan.
Dip chicken in flour first, then egg/milk mixture, and then breadcrumbs. Make sure you are giving each step an even coat. Place on parchment paper and put into the oven. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
Make sure you remove all toothpicks! I like to serve this chicken with either angel hair pasta mixed with a little bit of garlic and butter, or some rice. It is a heavy main dish, so you want your side dishes to be light.
