Friday FAVES

Lately I’ve been using some new products (and some old faves), and I thought I would share them with you all on this lovely Friday!

I LOVE me some beachy waves pretty much all year round, and I really like using a texturizing spray like this one from LUSH.  This is their Sea Salt Spray, which gives amazing beachy texture and a grapefruit scent.  I love this product because even if you spray it on dry hair, it dries matte and doesn’t look gel-like.  Ew.  It just gives you piece-y waves.

For my face, I have been using this new Urban Decay One and Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector, which is kind of like a cross between a tinted moisturizer and a foundation.  It gives sheer coverage, but is so lightweight and PERFECT for summer.  I will have a full review of this coming up on Monday so don’t miss that one!

Another product that is a must-have for me this summer is highlight.  I am a bit highlight crazed at the moment, but nothing beats the Sephora Collection Radiant Luminizing Drops in Morning Light.  This is a liquid highlighter and the color is a cross between champagne and gold.  It gives that wet looking sheen (no glitter) that I am after.  I freakin’ love this stuff, and you get so much product.  Here’s a swatch:

Something else that I have been loving is the Loreal Silkissime Eyeliner in Highlighter.  This is a pinky-gold eyeliner pencil that is so creamy, and SO PRETTY in the inner corner of my eyes.  It almost had an irridescence to it and it really brightens nicely.  Here’s a swatch:

I haven’t been using false lashes a lot lately, but I have been using this Maybelline Pumped Up Colossal Mascara a ton.  This mascara really makes my lashes look thick and fluffy, but still natural.  It’s not clumpy at all, and it holds my curl all day.

On my eyelids, MAC’s Satin Taupe Eyeshadow has been my go-to.  This is one of my favorite MAC shades, and it’s a true taupe with some silver shimmer.  It’s a frost, so it gives off such a nice sheen.  I’ve been wearing this on my lid with Espresso (a deep brown matte) in my crease almost every day.  Here’s a swatch of Satin Taupe:

I recently got to try out a Sunday Riley product from my Play! By Sephora box, and this is the Good Genes Serum.  In the 8 days that I have used this product, it has changed my skin.  It has made my skintone more even and super smooth, and has begun to fade some of my dark spots/freckles.  I am amazed by this product and I can’t wait to purchase the full size!

My last favorite is a perfume, and this is Chloe Roses de Chloe.  This perfume just smells like you walked through a rose garden.  The scent is very delicate and feminine, and I just love it. The bottle is really pretty too.

What are some of your recent favorites?

Hittin’ PAN

I consider hitting pan on a product an accomplishment. I have a ton of makeup, and for me to use a powder product up…well, that means I must really love it!

Benefit Boxed Blush in Hervana – I’m sure everyone saw this coming.  This was in my 2015 Favorites, I use this blush pretty much everyday, and I love it.  All the colors swirled together give off this beautiful, baby pink sheen.  There is still a ton of product in here to use up.

NARS Orgasm and Laguna Cheek Duo – Laguna is a bit too dark and orange for my skintone, but this blush in Orgasm is one of my favorites.  It’s a pretty shimmery peachy pink color.  I use the bronzer when I have a tan. 🙂

NARS Light Reflecting Powder in Transclucent Crystal – this is a white setting powder with light reflecting crystals (not glitter or shimmer though) to brighten up the skin.  I use this powder on top of my undereye concealer and it gives me an airbrushed look while it brightens and keeps my concealer from creasing.  Love this stuff.

MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation in NW20 – this is a powder foundation that I like to use when I want light coverage and don’t have a lot of time.  This powder is soft and very pigmented.  I can build this up for more coverage, and it doesn’t make me look cakey.

MAC Eyeshadow in All That Glitters – this color is a shimmery golden beige that I love as an all over the lid color.  The finish is veluxe pearl, so it really packs the shimmer.

MAC Eyeshadow in Patina – this color is more of a taupe brown, and has a frost finish.  This is also a really great lid color and looks good smudged under the lower lashline.

Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Brunette/ Dark Brown – this is probably my quickest and favorite brow product.  I use a small angled brush and mix the two shades together, and then I apply to my brows in short strokes for a natural look.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Eyeshadow in Verve – I love this shade so much, and I’m gonna purchase the single when it runs out.  This is a silvery-taupe color that just transforms my eye look. This is a very unique color and my favorite in the palette.

REVIEW | Fake Bake 60 Minute Self Tan

In the summertime I like to use self-tanner.  Tanning outside is just not an option for me, as I am fair skinned and I worry too much about skin cancer.  My favorite self tanner of all time is the Fake Bake Flawless.  I have used this tanner for a couple of years, and it’s awesome.  Before I found Fake Bake, I had tried pretty much every single self tanner on the market; always searching for the perfect one.  I have a whole review on this self tanner here, and it’s just perfect.  It’s a spray liquid, comes with a mitt for streak-free application, and it’s not orangey at all.

I recently decided to try out their quicker version, the Fake Bake 60 Minute  Tan.  I purchased this on Amazon for around $13.

Like the original Fake Bake Flawless, it comes with the tanning spray in a 8 oz bottle, a tanning mitt, and gloves.  I immediately was like, “yay a pink mitt!” haha.

So the instructions say to exfoliate before using, which I always like to do.  Exfoliating before applying helps the tanner to stick to your skin better.

It then says to spray the liquid directly onto the mitt, and use circular motions to buff into your skin.  It also says to wash your hands after- make sure to do that.

It says that you can leave the tanner on for 60 minutes for a golden tan, 2 hours for a bronze tan, and 3 hours for a deep dark tan.  It also says on the bottle to NOT leave this tanner on for more than 3 hours, unlike most tanners that you can sleep in.

Immediately I was a little peeved.  When I purchased this product, I was under the impression that this would give me the full tan in one hour, but it states that for best results you should leave it on for 3 hours.  The original Fake Bake tells you to leave it on for at least 4 hrs, so this product still gives you a tan in less time.

The Application

First, I exfoliated with a nice sugar scrub to remove any of the dead skin cells.

I then put on one of the gloves onto my right hand (since I’m right handed) and placed the mitt over the glove.  Not only does the glove help to protect your hand from getting stained, but it also helps the mitt from slipping off.

I sprayed about 10 sprays directly onto the mitt and immediately thought “oh boy, this looks green!”

It definitely is a green/black color, that was a little scary!  I buffed it into my skin and it definitely gave my skin a green tint.  You want to work quickly while doing this, and make sure to go over multiple times with the mitt.  It dries quickly and non-sticky.

After I was done, I washed my mitt and the color completely came out of the mitt, so I knew that the green tint was just the color guide.  This product didn’t have as much of a color guide as the original and was a little bit more difficult to blend because of that.  The original formula has a very brown color that turns you instantly very brown.  This product gave me a green tint but didn’t turn me immediately tan.

Because of this, I would not recommend using this before going out.  I would use this when you have time to be at home, and can wash it off before leaving. Like any self- tanner, it does smell.  At first, it smells tropical, like coconut, but as it wears, it develops that “self tanner smell”, but I don’t mind much because I do not wear this out of the house.

I left this tan on for one hour, washed it off, and I noticed that the green did come off in the shower.  It left me with a tiny bit of a tan.  So little that it barely shows in my before and after pictures.  I was disappointed by this, but the little bit of a tan that it left was non-streaky, even, and not orange-y, so that was good.

The next day I decided to try it again and leave it on for the full three hours, so I repeated the application process and waited.  After three hours, I washed it off and didn’t see much difference.  I do have a little bit of a tan, but nothing like the original Fake Bake gives me.

Here are pictures of before, after one hour, and after three hours. These pretty much look exactly the same to me; this tanner did nothing.

I will definitely be sticking with the regular formula from now on.  That formula has an extreme color guard so you can tell exactly where you are applying it, it doesn’t have a green tone, and it gives a much deeper tan.  The downside is that it does take four or more hours to develop, but it’s worth it for a nice tan!

I hope this review was helpful if you are looking for a new self tanner to try!

All Time Favorite Glosses

There’s nothing better than a lip gloss to help me look and feel put together.  Even with no other makeup on, I always toss on either a tinted balm or a gloss.  These glosses are not only my favorite formulas, but my favorite shades too.  None of these are sticky or gloopy, and they all have pretty good staying power for a gloss!

NARS Lip Gloss in Babydoll – a pretty, shimmery, candy pink color.  These glosses are unscented and totally non-sticky.  They stay on the lips and actually help hydrate.

Chanel Glossimer in 437 Eden – this is a gloss that gives off that really juicy look.  The color is very sheer, but it really looks pretty on its own or can take any lipstick to the next level.  These glosses are also unscented and not sticky.

Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Wildflower – this gloss has a bit of stick to it, but that’s what helps it to last.  This is a beautiful and pigmented berry color, and it smells like cake.

Dior Lip Maximizer – this is a lip plumper and a gloss in one.  This color, Pink Sunset, was a limited edition color last year, but I also have the regular light pink color and I love that too.  This formula has a slight tingle to it, and I find that it really does plump my lips comfortably and I love the brush tip applicator.  It isn’t sticky and smells nice and sweet.

NYX Butter Gloss in Apple Strudel – hands down, the best drugstore glosses out there.  I just repurchased this gorgeous coral-pink color, and I absolutely love it. These come in a ton of colors, have a sweet cake smell, and last a long time on my lips.

Play! By Sephora | April 2016

Hey guys!  Today I’m bringing you the Play! By Sephora box for April. I am very happy with this month’s box, and there are a bunch of products that I’ve actually been really curious to try!  Let’s unbox!

Play! By Sephora is now open for subscriptions in all areas, so click here to get yours for only $10 a month!  Everyone gets the same products delivered, and it’s a great way to try out new things!

Here is the box for April.

NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien – this is probably familiar to most of you, because it was included in last year’s birthday gift for Sephora Beauty Insiders.  I used mine up very quickly when I got it, so I am very happy to see this again!  I love the rose pink color, and it goes on so creamy and smooth.  NARS products never disappoint.

Sephora Collection Colorful Cheek Ink Blush Gel in Peony – I have seen these in store and I’ve been wanting to try them out.  I love cream blushes, but I’ve never tried a gel before.  This looks like a really pretty and natural pink color, so I am anxious to see how this wears.

Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream – I was actually planning on purchasing this new eye cream from Clinique as soon as I finished my current eye cream, so I was happy to see this sample.  I LOVE Clinique skincare, and this is supposed to hydrate and brighten up the eye area.

Derek Lam 10 Crosby Perfume in 2am Kiss – this perfume smells so good.  This would be a really nice nighttime and date night scent, as it smells of dark Amber and has some caramelly sweetness.  I really like this!

Milk Makeup Sunshine Oil – this is another new line that Sephora recently began carrying.  This is a mutipurpose oil that you can use on your face, hair, skin, or anywhere that needs hydration.  This smells like citrus and I’m excited to try it!

Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment – not gonna lie, when I saw this product in the box, I gasped and grabbed it.  I have been wanting to try this FOREVER, but it’s over $100!  This is a treatment that is supposed to exfoliate and brighten up the skin, fade dark spots, and give a radiant complexion.  I will be trying this TONIGHT!

That’s it for April’s box!

Keep the good boxes coming Sephora 🙂

xx Amy
