A Few Fall Lippies…

Been loving my lippies lately.  Fall is the time where you can go a little bolder; try out a darker lip- or just stick to your tried-and-true nudes, like me most of the time.

A raspberry red gloss like Wildflower from Laura Mercier will really brighten up your look, without being too over the top.  This pinky-red gloss smells so delish and isn’t sticky on the lips.

If you’re a matte liquid-lip kind of gal, I have been loving this one by Huda Beauty called Bombshell.  This is a pinky brown nude that is so comfortable and pretty on the lips.  Anastasia Beverly Hills Veronica is another really comfortable formula – and this shade is totally 90’s and definitely on the bolder side.  So pretty with boots and a sweater!

If you like lipsticks, Lipstick Queen Medieval is my go-to sheer shiny red.  This will give you a sheer hint of red, but is definitely buildable.  It is so shiny and hydrating, too.  I have also been wearing this Essence lipstick in 07 Natural Beauty a ton.  This is just the standard, mauve pink nude that I love.  These lipsticks are great quality for the price.

Lastly, I have one of my favorite lipliners, Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat Liner in Pillowtalk.  This shade goes with everything and is super long lasting!  I always start off with this when doing liquid lipsticks.

What shades have you been loving lately?

Sephora just had their fall VIB 20% off sale- and you know I had pick out some goodies.

Whenever they have these sales, I like to stock up on products I use a lot during the year (like skincare), and I also buy Christmas gifts during the sale too.  Most of what I bought in the sale I can’t show, because the recipients of the gifts are readers!  I can show the few things that I picked up for myself.  So here we go!

Most of what I picked up was skincare, and most were repurchases.

Clinique Gel Moisturizer– this is my go-to, everyday moisturizer.  It’s not thick or greasy, and it hydrates my skin.  I like Clinique skincare because it never breaks me out.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir– I LOVE this stuff.  I use it before my moisturizer to refresh and tone.  It smells amazing and I really like the way it makes my skin feel.

Sephora Collection Purifying and Mattifying Mud Mask – this mask is a total Glamglow dupe and cleans out more pores and leaves my skin so soft and refreshed.  I like to use this mask once a week.

Also from Sephora Collection are these little eye masks. These are little strips that you put underneath your eyes that take away puffiness, and they feel so refreshing on tired eyes.  These two scents are my favorite.

Lastly for skincare is this Dior Abricot Fortifying Cream for Nails.  This is a cuticle cream that is supposed to be really nice if you have dry cuticles that crack (I do).  This smells really nice, and feels very nourishing.  I’m excited to try this.

Also, I picked up another Sephora Collection Nail Polish Remover for Glitter.  I always have this on hand- I won’t remove glitter nail polish without it.  You simply dip your finger in and scrape it on the side into the sponge, and it removes all of the glitter. Love this.

Now, I also picked up some hair products- I love both of these brands here, and just have to try any new products they come out with!

First is a repurchase- this Bumble and Bumble Pret A Powder, which is a really good dry shampoo/texturizing powder.  I like to sprinkle this into my roots- work it around and then brush it out.  It absorbs oil and instantly makes my hair feel clean, while adding a ton of volume.  This bottle has a ton of product in it and will last forever, I had my last one for years before it ran out.

Next, I purchased this Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast Spray.  I love the Living Proof line, so when I saw this I thought I would like it.  This is just a spray that is supposed to add volume to the hair-but what’s nice about it is that you can spray it on dry hair and it won’t feel sticky.  I think I am really going to like this.  I love some big hair.

The last hair product I purchased is this Bumble & Bumble Sunday Shampoo.  I’ve been wanting to try this for a really long time.  This is a clarifying shampoo that you’re supposed to use once a week, and it gets all of the product buildup out of your hair.  This has ridiculously good reviews so I’m really excited to try this.

Ok, so let’s get to the good stuff.  The makeup.

I had to treat myself to this Sephora Glow For It Kit.  I actually bought 2 of these (one is a gift).  This is currently sold out, but I’m hoping they bring it back because it’s an awesome value!  It has 6 products- Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid in Moonstone, Benefit Watts Up, CoverFX Custom Infusion Drops in C+ Lemongrass Radiance, Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Incandescent Light, Lancôme Glow Subtil Silky Creme Highlighter in Glowing Lights 6, and Milk Makeup Sunshine Oil.  This kit is such a good value – I am really excited for the Hourglass powder.

Next, I picked up a product I’ve had on my list for awhile.  The Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer.  This primer smells so amazing (like coconut) and has a moisturizer consistency (no silicone).  This primer is supposed to be super hydrating while smoothing and brightening the skin.

The last thing is this Huda Beauty Lip Contour Set in Trendsetter/Bombshell.  This set comes with two mini liquid lipsticks and a lipliner.  I have heard great things about these liquid lipsticks, and at $24, this is a great value.

What did you pick up at the sale?

BRAND FOCUS | Too Faced

Too Faced is one of my favorite makeup brands.  They totally win the award for cutest packaging on their products, but what’s inside the packaging is pretty awesome, too.

Today, I’m going to share with you my favorite products from the brand!  There are a lot of products that I know I haven’t tried (lips, foundation, concealer), but everything I have tried has been really good so far.

Let’s start off with their eyeshadow palettes.  AMAZING.  CHOCOLATEY.  Some of the best eyeshadows I’ve ever used.

Pictured here is the Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette and the Chocolate Bon Bons Palette.  The packaging on these are metal, so they are super sturdy, they have a nice big mirror, and the names of the shadows are all dessert themed.  The shadows are all buttery, pigmented, and LAST.  If you’re looking to invest in a really nice neutral palette, go for one of these! Review for Semi Sweet here Chocolate Bon Bons here.

Next are some cheek products.

The Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer in a cult favorite, and for good reason!  Pictured here is the shade Milk Chocolate (the lightest one – there are three) and in addition to it also smelling like chocolate, it is so natural and so pretty.  This bronzer is completely matte, and just gives such a healthy glow to the cheeks.  I also use this to contour since it is on the cool toned side.  Again, this packaging is gorgeous.

Another cheek product of theirs that I really like is this bronzer/blush duo called Soulmates Blushing Bronzer in Carrie and Big.  This also comes in a deeper color called Ross and Rachel, so how cute is that?  I went with the lighter shade, and this bronzer gives a nice satin finish, without being shimmery.  The blush is small, but it’s a very pretty coral.  The colorsreally  compliment each other.

Also, these heart shaped blushes are not only adorable, but they have really good color payoff.  This one is the Love Flush blush in Justify My Love.  These blushes are pigmented and last all day.

I also really like this Primed and Poreless Pressed Powder.  This is a translucent powder that blurs the look of pores, and makes your skin look airbrushed while keeping your face shine-free.  They have just recently changed the packaging on this- it is now just a pink compact, similar to how the chocolate bronzer looks (just pink).

I’m sure everyone has heard of this Better Than Sex Mascara; I know it is a very popular product.  As far as high-end mascara goes, this is one of my favorites.  The packaging is so pretty and is made of metal, and I just love the fluffy brush.  I get volume and length from this, and I like how my lashes don’t ever feel crunchy.

I don’t use primers all the time, but the Shadow Insurance and the Hangover primers are some of the best.  Shadow Insurance is an eye primer that comes off colorless and helps my eyeshadow to apply smoothly and evenly, and also helps it to last.  The Hangover primer is so hydrating and really smooths the skin to prep for makeup.  It also smells like delicious coconut, and feels like a nourishing moisturizer when it goes on.

So, that’s it from Too Faced!  What are your favorite products from the brand?

FALSE LASHES | Favorites, Tips & Tricks

I just love a good set of false lashes.  I have pretty short lashes, and I think that applying false lashes is a lot easier than just piling on coat after coat of mascara.  With the right practice, the right lash, and a good glue, you  too can learn to love false lashes.

Let’s start off with a few of my favorite lashes.  The Red Cherry Lashes in #213 Harley are my go-to.  I describe them as “my lashes, but better” because they are probably the most natural looking false lashes I’ve ever tried.  They add just the right length and volume, without looking too over the top.  The Ardell Demi Wispies are also a really nice non-dramatic looking lash.  They are a bit longer on the outer portion than the other, so they give a pretty, cat-eye look.  They are really fluttery and soft.

Another really great set are the V73 Volumize Lashes by Revlon.  These are really similar to the Ardell, but they aren’t as thick.  I like how the lash band is really thin on these.  Now, for a dramatic lash, I love these Boudoir set from House of Lashes.  These are super dramatic, sexy lashes.  They are thicker in the middle and go out thinner on the sides.  They are so flirty and beautiful with a smokey eye.  Perfect for a date night.

I always re-use my lashes, so I really like this little case from House of Lashes.  It has little compartments to keep three sets, and you can even fit a little thing of glue in here.  Perfect for travel, but I like to just keep it out on my vanity.  Similar here.

Applying lashes is simple; all it takes is a little bit of practice.  The kind of glue that you use is very important- I have thrown out tons of brands of glue because they just didn’t cut it.  You don’t want your lash falling off during a date or a special event, so make sure the glue you have is a good one.  Here are my faves.  They all have brush on applicators; I don’t like the tubes; I always get too much glue on my lash with the squeeze tubes.

House of Lashes Dark Tone Glue, House of Lashes Regular Glue, Revlon Lash Adhesive, and Duo Brush On Adhesive.  These are all really nice, they go on smoothly, and they won’t budge.  All of them are under $8!

Before you put your lashes on, measure them against your eye, and if they are too long, you may need to trim them.  I use a tiny pair of manicure scissors to trim mine.

I then take my eyelash curler and curl my natural lashes, and apply one coat of mascara on the top and bottom lashes.  I don’t like to put mascara on the false lashes after I apply them, because that would just be a pain to remove from the lashes.  One coat of mascara helpsthem blend  in with the falsies.

Apply a thin strip of glue to the lash band, concentrating on the edges, because those tend to lift faster.  Depending on what glue you’re using, you may need to wait for the glue to become tacky.  The House of Lashes adhesives are ready to apply immediately, but the others (especially Duo) you will need to wait 30-45 seconds before applying.  The glue will be too watery and won’t stick if you don’t let it get tacky first.

Now to apply the lashes, you can just use your fingers, but if you are a beginner, you can use tweezers or a lash grabbing tool like the one pictured with the lash case to apply.  I recommend placing the lash in the middle of your lashline first, and then apply the sides, starting with the inner corner, and then the outer corner.  This way you will make sure to have it secured.  I always like to go over he band with a little bit of liquid liner, and keep extra glue in my purse just in case!

I hope these tips were useful!

Gel Nails at Home | Essie Gel Couture – 14 Day Wear Test

Essie is the latest brand to come out with the at home gel manicure system.  They have released a ton of new colors, plus a gel topcoat.  This new system is supposed to last up to 14 days, and make your nails look super shiny and gel-like without a lamp.  It also is supposed to be very easy to remove.

I purchased one color of polish for $11.50 at Target.  The shade is called Stitch By Stitch, which is a medium neutral pink creme.  There are a ton of pretty colors to choose from- it was really hard to just pick out one.  This polish does not require a base coat, is supposed to be streak free, and have a neat “swirl stem brush”.

I also purchased the top coat, which was also $11.50 at Target.  The top coat is supposed to be quick drying, and give an ultra glossy shine.  It is also said to be shatter and chip proof.

So, right off the bat, I love the unique twisty shape of the bottles.  They are really cool.  The wands inside the colored bottles are also twisted, and what I really liked was the shape of the brush.  The brush is bigger than the normal Essie brushes; they are flat and thicker.  One swipe of this brush does my pinkie nails.

The application of the color was amazing.  Just a couple of swipes was all I needed for the first coat, and it was pretty opaque already, but I always like to do two coats.  It wasn’t streaky, and I didn’t get any nail polish at all on my skin.  The brush was that good.

Now, onto the top coat.  This is by far the shiniest top coat I’ve ever used.  After applying two coats of the color, I swiped on the top coat and it just glided on effortlessly.  My nails were SO SHINY.  I let them dry for about 30 minutes and they felt totally dry.  When I woke up the next morning, my nails felt like they had hardened, and the nail polish looked so shiny.  I couldn’t stop looking at them.

I left the polish on for the full 14 days, and let me tell you, it was hard.  I am used to changing my polish one or two times per week.

Before I show you the after picture, just know that I am super hard on my nails.  I am not careful at all, I open up packages and juice boxes, give baths to my kids every night, wash dishes…and usually my nail polish is chipped within 3-4 days.  But not with this one!

14 DAYS LATER.  Believe it.

I am in shock over this polish.  No chips at all, only a bit of wearing on the tips.  As you can see, there is a gap from the cuticles just from nail growth.  Pretty good for 14 days, I’d say.  Removal of this was also a breeze, just like removing regular nail polish.

This polish system is the best I’ve ever used.  Even my CND polishes don’t last this long, and those last a full week.  I am so happy I bought this!

After I removed the polish, I immediately applied it again.  That’s how much I liked this!

Have you tried this polish system?

x amy
