Winter Skincare

Winter has a way of sucking the life out of my skin, and I know I’m not the only one out there with a dry flaky face!  Here are some ways I combat dehydrated dry skin.

OVERNIGHT

Treating dry skin overnight is so important in the winter because skin is resting and products have the ability to sink in!

First, I will exfoliate my lips with a little bit of sugar mixed with coconut oil, and then apply a generous amount of lip balm.  Dior Creme de Rose is my fave, but I also really like the EOS Coconut Milk Balm, and you can never go wrong with a good ol Lip Smacker!  All give me soft smooth lips when I wake up.

I always apply hand cream and cuticle cream at night, because my hands and cuticles get very dry, especially in the winter.  My favorite hand cream is this one by Loccitane, and the cuticle cream I’ve been loving is this Dior Abricot Fortifying Cream.  This is a very sticky cuticle cream, but it works wonders, and you only need a tiny bit.

I also like to take a really thick lotion and apply it to areas that are really dry, like elbows, knees, feet, etc.  This one from Aveeno works really good and smooths skin overnight.

CLEANSING + MOISTURIZING

Have you guys tried an in-shower body moisturizer?  These are so cool and they really do a good job.  My favorite is this Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner because I love the smell!  It doesn’t leave me greasy and is super easy to use in the shower- just rub it in, rinse lightly, and then pat yourself dry.

I always make sure to use a gentle, mild cleanser on my face in the winter, so it won’t dry out my skin.  Purity is my go to.  Doesn’t strip my skin, isn’t heavily fragranced, and it doesn’t leave me with dry patches.  Immediately after washing, I skip the toner and go straight for the moisturizer.  Clinique Gel Moisturizer is my everyday one, and I never stray from this.  It gives moisture to my skin without feeling greasy.  Sinks right in and hydrates.

PRIMING

I also like using a facial spray and a hydrating primer.  Any spray works really nice on the face just to add some moisture to the skin.  The ELF Mist and Set, Smashbox Primer Water, and Caudalie Beauty Elixir are my top products.

Before foundation, I like using a hydrating primer.  I either use this L’Oréal Magic Lumi Primer if I want a bit of a sheen, or the Too Faced HangoveRX, which more subtly brightens.  This just helps my foundation to glide on so smoothly and not cling to any dry skin.

FOUNDATION

I tend to skip my beloved Bare Minerals in the winter, and instead go for a hydrating liquid or cream base.  ELF Moisturizing foundation stick and the ItCosmetics CC Cream are really nice and hydrating.

So that’s it for my winter skincare!
