BRAND FOCUS | Urban Decay

Time for another brand focus- and this time the spotlight is on Urban Decay!  I’m going to talk about some of my favorite products from the brand, and hopefully help if you are wanting to try UD and aren’t sure what to pick out.  I haven’t tried everything from the brand, especially all of their new products that have come out this year, but here’s what I like so far!

To be honest, I haven’t really been impressed with their foundations or concealers (I know) but I do love the One And Done.  It is kind of like a tinted moisturizer that I used up a while back.  BUT, I do love this Chill Makeup Setting Spray, and I also love the All Nighter.  They work really well at keeping your makeup on all day.

Also, I love these Naked Flushed Palettes.  I have Native (on top) and Streak (on bottom).  These come with a bronzer, highlight, and blush.  The colors are super pigmented, go on smoothly, they’re easy to blend, and perfect for travel.  I just love these.

Now to me, UD shines with their eye products.  Their eyeshadows are some of the best out there.

Here I have my favorite two, the Smoked Palette- which was discontinued 😦 I just love the jewel tones in this palette- and the Naked 2 Palette.  So amazingly pigmented and smooth.  The color Verve in Naked 2 is one of my favorite shadows of all time.  It’s like a silvery color that is beautiful.

Also, the Moondust and single eye shadows.

These are AMAZING.  So metallic, almost look wet on the lid and they come in colors I’ve never even seen from other brands.  Here I have Diamond Dog, Lounge, and Solstice.

Everyone knows about the 24/7 pencils and how awesome they are.  They come in every color of the rainbow- here I have LSD and Ransom (d/c).  Perversion and Bourbon are also good).  Also, the Perversion mascara is a fave of mine because it really adds thickness and volume to my lashes.  I also really like the Mascara Resurrection, which is like a mascara reviver that you put over day old mascara to soften it if you want to apply more.  Love that.  The Heavy Metal Liners are really nice if you want to add a pop of glitter to your look- here is the shade Half Baked, and it looks so pretty over liner or underneath the lashline just to add a little bit of glamour.  Another product I really love are the 24/7 Lip Pencils.  I recently used up the shade Naked and I really liked it.  Very creamy, and actually lasted on my lips.

So, those are all of my fave products from the brand!

Makeup Storage + Organization

The way that I have stored my makeup has changed in the past few years, but I finally found something that I have stuck with for awhile, and that works for me!

I store my “everyday” or “most used” makeup in this acrylic drawer set.  This is not one of those huge expensive ones, but it works to store the majority of my makeup, and I like how it keeps everything organized and dust free.  I keep this right on top of my vanity, so everything I need is in here.

The top section is open and I’m able to store a lot up here.  I have upcycled old Bath and Body Works candle containers here and use those to store my brushes and my most used lip products.  I like how they are clear and they are short so it’s easy to see everything in there.  Also, I have a small glass container that I keep makeup sponges in.  I also usually have some sort of setting or hydrating spray up here.

There are three drawers, and each drawer is the same size and comes with a clear acrylic divider that you can take out and move around.  Let’s see the first drawer.  I have primers, concealers, and powders in the left section, and my foundations and a setting spray in the right side.

The second drawer has some cheek products.  The left side has a few bronzing powders and blushes, and then the right side has some highlighters.

The last drawer has eye products.  The left side has my eyebrow products, eyelash products, eyeliners, and also some tools like an eyelash curler, manicure scissors, and tweezers.  The right side has eyeshadow primers and eyeshadows.  I can’t fit any palettes  in here, but I do have some smaller duos and single shadows in here.

The rest of my makeup I store in an IKEA Alex Drawer set that is right next to my vanity.  This is also a very easy way to store makeup.  I also store things like makeup bags and other beauty products in there.

How do you organize your makeup?

EAT | Quick and Easy “Taco Rice”

Hello!  Have you ever just put a bunch of ingredients together and made something that just works?  Well, here is my go-to easy “Taco Rice” recipe that I have been making for years now.  It’s kind of like a southwestern inspired chicken and rice.  I hope you enjoy!

What you’ll need:

  • 2 chicken breasts, diced
  • 1 can rotel
  • 3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 cup frozen corn
  • 2 cups instant rice
  • Shredded cheese
  • Tortilla strips

First off, sauté your chicken.

When chicken is done, add your rotel and chicken broth.  I always blend up the rotel so it has a salsa consistency.  Add salt and cumin.

Boil this, and then add in your corn.

After boiling for a few minutes, add in your rice.  Give it a good stir and make sure all of the rice is coated.

Sprinkle cheese on top and cover.

Turn off the heat and let sit for 20 minutes.

Garnish with tortilla strips and serve!

The corn gives it a nice sweetness while the strips add a crunch to it!

I hope you like it 🙂
