Products I REGRET Buying

You know, it happens to the best of us- you see something you want, you do your research, you finally get it, and then it turns out to not be what you expected.  It stinks!  Here are some things I’ve regretted buying.

Let’s start off with this TanWISE dark bronzing sunless tanning mousse.  I got this at Sally’s, and I have purchased this once before.  I even featured it in my recent Sunless Tanning post.  This is a really great product- easy to apply, and gives a great tan.  UNTIL THE PUMP BREAKS.  I used this particular bottle twice before the pump just stopped working.  This is a foam product, so having this pump is necessary.  I was in the middle of tanning, and boom, brown liquid came dribbling out.  I have taken the pump out, done everything I can to try and fix it, but it won’t work.  The bad reviews online all complain about this.  Packaging FAIL.

So next, this nail polish from ESSIE.  I feel like Essie is kind of known for their beautiful colors- and also their hit or miss formula.  This color is a rose gold metallic called Buy Me A Cameo.  It is so so pretty in the bottle, but SO STREAKY on my nails. I can’t get this to work for me at all.  It won’t go opaque, and no matter how many coats, it still streaks. BOO.

Alright, onto the makeup now.  First off, this pale yellow Hourglass powder.  This is the Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light.  Now, these powders aren’t cheap, ($46!) and are supposed to give you a soft focus flawless look- like an Instagram filter in real life.  I really don’t see what the hype is though.  It’s a good powder…I mean, it mattifies…but so does my Rimmel Stay Matte ($4!).  I just thought this was going to be different, and for the price…just not worth it to me.

Another powder that I loved up until recently is this Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder.  This is a loose white powder that you use underneath your eyes to brighten.  This helps with my concealer not creasing, but I noticed the other day (to my horror) that it’s got glitter in it!  I was in natural lighting (car), and I noticed it was all sparkly up under there!  No ma’am.  Get the Translucent Setting Powder instead.

One more powder, and this one is gonna be a shock.  Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal.  This highlight powder is too dark for me.  Now I am fair, but not like…the fairest, and it doesn’t even work on me when I’m tan.  This makes my cheekbones look too gold-y brown and kind of…dirty.  It’s just too dark, and doesn’t highlight my skin.  I need to stick to the more pearly/pinky type colors.

Lastly is a lip product, and a very popular one.   This is Lolita by Kat Von D (gasp!).  This color is all wrong for me.  It is kind of a terra-cotta reddish brown, and it’s too warm for my skintone.  It’s the kind of color that just doesn’t suit me, and doesn’t look pretty.  I even feel like it makes my teeth look yellow!  This is their most popular shade, but I like Lovesick best!  Cool tones work much better on me than warm, I guess.

That’s it!  Do any of these products work for you?  Let me know in the comments!

xx amy
