August Beauty FAVES

Hello!  It is the end of August, and it’s time for a new beauty faves post!  I have a few things that are new, but most are old tried and true products that I’ve been using a ton this month.

Let’s start off with the makeup.

If you read my Beauty Haul Post a few weeks ago, you will have seen the MUFE shadow I purchased and planned to put it into a z-palette.  Well, I did just that.  I placed it into this super cute Holo Z-Palette with a few of my favorite MAC shadows.

I made this into my perfect little palette here with MAC Vanilla, Sable, Wedge, Espresso, Shale, and the MUFE Crystalline Gray Beige.  I’ve been using this everyday.

Next is a lip color and mascara I have mentioned a bunch before, but they deserve the recognition.

I just opened up a new tube of the Tarte Maneater Mascara and I remembered how much I loved it!  It has a huge rubber wand and it really lengthens and volumizes my lashes.  It is also easy to remove at the end of the day, which I really like.

The lip color I’ve been wearing constantly is my Kat Von D Liquid Lip in Lovesick.  I love the formula of these lipsticks, and this color is my perfect pinky nude.

I have two nail polish faves.  Both ESSIE.

I did a whole post on the color Garden Variety, which I am still loving.  The color is a beautiful blue teal creme.

The other color is an old favorite, Fiji.

It’s the perfect pastel pink that goes with anything.  This is my go-to light pink.

Lastly, a face mask.  My BFF April got me a Caudalie Beauty Elixir set for my birthday (SHE GETS ME – I want to bathe in the stuff) and in with the Beauty Elixir came the face wash and their Instant Detox Mask.

I have tried both products before, but I had really liked this mask, so I was happy to try it again.  I am definitely going to repurchase the full size of this when it runs out.  It reminds me a lot of the Origins Retexturizing Rose Clay Mask that I love,  but I like the tingly feeling that this gives.  It makes my face feel so clean and really clears my pores.

That’s all I have today for my August Beauty Faves!  See you in September!

90’s Throwback Craft | Shrinky Dinks

It’s the last day of summer for my daughter Allie, who starts FIRST GRADE tomorrow!!! To celebrate, here is one of her favorite crafts to make!

Tell me you remember SHRINKY DINKS from the 90’s!  Color on a piece of plastic, put it in the oven, and out comes a little shrunken charm?  Well, if you don’t, here is how you and your kids can make this simple (but really cool) craft.  Let’s get started!

What you’ll need:

  • Number 6 plastic (you can find this on the lids of to-go containers, or the aluminum containers at the grocery store.  Look for the triangle with the number 6 inside.

  • Sharpies (regular markers won’t work)

  • Scissors
  • An oven preheated to 350 degrees

So go ahead and preheat your oven first, and then cut out your plastic sheets.

Using a white sheet of paper underneath, draw your object, and color it in with the sharpies.  We did a cupcake and a Shopkin.  If you have a coloring book or something like that with an image, you can trace it!

Cut out your image, and place it on a cookie sheet.

Place in the oven, and watch the magic happen!  The plastic with shrivel and curl up, and when it lays back down flat, it’s ready!

It’s kind of hard to see, but do you see it shriveling up? My kids LOVE to watch this happen.

Be careful when removing, they will be very hot!  The end result is about 1/6 of the original object.

You can also punch a hole through the plastic before you bake it, so you can make it into a keychain, necklace, or even a Christmas ornament!

I recommend sealing the marker side with  some clear nail polish.  This prevents the marker from scratching off.

I hope you liked this DIY and will try it!

Five Fashion Faves For Friday

Hello!  Today I am sharing some accessories that I have been loving lately!  It’s still pretty hot here in Texas, so it’s not QUITE fall fashion time yet, but I have a few things that can work for fall too 🙂

First off – this navy blue sun hat that I picked up from the Nordstrom during the sale.  I think that navy blue is such a flattering color for dark hair, and this hat isn’t too floppy or too stiff- it’s just right.  Being outside so much with the kids, it’s important to protect my face from the sun.  I wear this pretty much every time I go outside!

I couldn’t find the exact one, but I linked a similar style here

The next thing aren’t really new, because hoop earrings have always been my favorite thing and type of earring to wear.  I especially love gold ones- these in particular, because they are so thin.  I also picked these up during the sale.

I love how they look peeking out from my hair, and they go with absolutely everything.  The bigger the hoop, the better!

The next thing are Fanny packs.  Yes, they’re baaaack and they’re totally cute.  You can just call them “belt bags” if you want!  I have one that I wear with workout clothes, and one that I wear with regular clothes.  This one fits my phone just perfect, and even has little reflective trim on it.  I picked it up from F21!

They’re so convenient and hands free!  Similar style here.

Next are loafers.  These are totally in for the upcoming fall season and I am loving them!  They dress up any outfit and look stylish while still being comfy.

I love the embroidery on the black ones, and the gold hardware on the leopard ones!  So CUTE.  Similar loafer styles here.

Lastly are these phone cases.  I recently got a new phone and I got a few cases for it.  The first one here is cork with gold throughout, and the other is clear with pink floating glitter inside.

I just love to have a cute phone case, and it’s fun to switch them up.

That’s it for the accessories I’ve been loving!  I’m looking forward to fall fashion posts coming up soon!

On My Nails | Essie Garden Variety

Teal nail color is one of my favorite colors to wear in the summertime, but because it’s not too bright, and I think it can work for the fall/winter seasons too.  This color is Essie’s Garden Variety, and was a gift from my cousin Katie for my birthday!  She always picks out the best nail colors.  This one is gorgeous!

As you can see it’s a bold creamy teal blue color.  I used two coats of this and it went on nice and smooth.  I topped it off with my Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat.  Super shiny and pretty.

I took some pictures outside, and it does show up a lot more blue in the sunlight.

I’ve had this color on for about 3 days now, and no chilling, just a tiny bit of tip wear.  I really think this color stands out and looks really nice with my skintone.

Do you like teal nail color?

DIY | Solar Eclipse Viewer

Hello!  We are so excited over here for the solar eclipse on Monday, August 21.  Since solar eclipse glasses are kind of hard to find, we decided to make our own viewers so we can safely watch the eclipse without hurting our eyes.  Everything that we used to make these we already had in our house.  Here’s how we made them!

What you need:

  • Any kind of box (cereal, snack box)
  • Foil
  • Tape
  • White paper
  • Paper clip/safety pin

Trace the bottom of your box onto a piece of white paper.

Cut out the rectangle and stick some tape on it.

Tape this onto the bottom of the inside of your box.

This next part is optional, but I wrapped the girls’ boxes with white wrapping paper so that they could decorate their boxes.  I’m always looking for a crafting opportunty. Haha 🙂

The next thing you want to do is to cut two holes in the top of your box.  Tape up the middle part so it’s secure.

Wrap a piece of aluminum foil around one of the holes, and tape into place.

Using your paperclip or safety pin, poke a small hole in the center of the foil.

Your viewer is complete!

Beautiful!

During the eclipse, you’re going to stand with your back to the sun, let the sun come through the aluminum foil, look through the open hole, and you will be able to view the eclipse on the piece of white paper inside the box.  Cool, huh? 🙂

Hope you try out this DIY!

Thanks for reading! xx
