Quarterly Empties | Products I’ve Used Up

Its the end of September, which means it’s time for another quarterly empties!  Only one more post of empties and then it’s a new year!  Let’s get into it.

Let’s start off with the makeup.

I FINALLY finished this Urban Decay Chill a Makeup Setting Spray.  I have had this a LONG time (they have changed the packaging) and I would definitely buy this again.  I don’t usually have a problem with my makeup lasting, so I really only used this on special occasions.  I like to use it before makeup and after and it really keeps your makeup looking fresh ALL DAY.

Another face product that I love is this L’Oréal Magic Lumi Primer.  This is a pearly white primer that feels nice and moisturizing, and adds some glow to the skin before makeup.  I would repurchase this.

I also used up a Sephora Collection Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer in Meringue.  This concealer is really nice at covering my dark circles, and I don’t find that it creases throughout the day.  I have repurchased this.

The last product for face is the Real Techniques Miracle Blending Sponge.  I try to toss these every three months, and I love them!  I think they are just as good as the Beauty Blender for much cheaper.  I always use mine damp to apply my foundation.  Always a repurchase!

I used up two different mascaras.  First, the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, which I really do love, but I have found a drugstore dupe for it that I like even better!  It separates and adds mega volume.  I wouldn’t repurchase though, because of the price.  The next one is the Diorshow Mascara.  This mascara just takes too long.  I have to apply 3-4 coats just to get it to look like anything.  It’s a very thin, natural formula, and I just didn’t like it very much.  For the price, there are much better mascaras out there.  I won’t purchase this one.

The Marc Jacobs Magic Marc-er Precision Pen Liner is a really nice, really black liquid liner.  It goes on smoothly, and stays put.  I would definitely purchase this in the future.

I used up two lip products that I kept in my purse, first, the Dior Lip Glow in Pink.  This is a hydrating balm that adjusts to your lips and gives you a perfect shade of pink.  I really liked this at first, but it kind of stopped working after awhile and just looked clear on my lips.  For the price, there are better tinted balms out there-I probably won’t repurchase.  Next is my favorite lipstick- Essence Lipstick in Natural Beauty. I love this my-lips-but-better pink color, and it’s nice and hydrating and adds some shine.  LOVE THIS.  Already repurchased.

Ok, time for skin and nails.

I LOVE the Essie Gel Couture line.  I did a whole review on it here.  This is the topcoat that I used up.  It goes on nice and thick, hardens as it dries, and gives a beautiful shine to the nails.  It also doesn’t chip.  I already have a backup.

Next is my every day moisturizer.  This is the Clinique Dramatically Gel Moisturizer.  This is my go-to because it is lightweight, and very hydrating.  It doesn’t clog my pores or give me bumps.  It also helps my makeup to go on super smoothly.  Already repurchased.

For nail polish remover, I love this Sephora Collection Instant Remover.  You just dip your fingers in, and it removes all the polish!  It’s easy and quick.  Already repurchased.

Lastly, the Loccitane Hand Cream.  This is really good hand cream.  It is so moisturizing and doesn’t feel greasy.  I kept this in my car and it lasted a long time.  I would repurchase this one.

On to the haircare.

I always get samples of the Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Shampoo and Conditioner from Sephora.  These are good, but I just wouldn’t purchase them.  They’re expensive, and they aren’t that great!  I have drugstore items I love more.

The Lush BIG Shampoo is one of my all time faves.  It really clarifies and clears any buildup from the hair, and adds volume.  It also smells AMAZING.  I will definitely repurchase.

The next thing is in every empties I ever do.  The Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist Deep Conditioner.  I use this every time I wash my hair, and also on my girls’ hair.  It’s cheap and works so good.  It leaves our hair nice and smooth and soft.  I will always repurchase.

The last thing is the Organix Eucalyptus and Mint Shampoo.  I originally bought this for my husband, but I ended up using it too and we both love it.  It is really tingly and really cleans the hair.  It smells minty and so invigorating!  I love this and have already repurchased.

That’s it for the empties!

Sheer Pink Nails

I love the idea of a French manicure, but in a natural way. The white tips of the nails showing, and a very light pink polish over top.  Lately I have wearing this neutral look to my nails- it goes with everything, and is hardly noticeable if it chips.

I have been letting my nails grow, so they are fairly long for me, and I have been using Essie’s Ballet Slippers nail color to achieve this look.

I use two coats of this polish, and it gives the very sheer light pink that is exactly what I want.

I think the result is so pretty and elegant, like having bare nails, except a little bit more polished and put together.

I read that this shade is one of Essie’s best selling nail colors, and 30 bottles are sold of it every hour in the United States alone.  It is also a favorite of Queen Elizabeth.  I can totally see why- it’s beautiful and elegant.

Do you like this look?

POWER HOUR | Cleaning Routine + Best Supplies?

Hello!  Today I am going to be sharing my everyday cleaning routine, and showing my favorite gadgets and cleaning products.  I like to devote time every day to clean.  I find that I can get all of my chores done for the day in an hour – sometimes less if I move fast.

Everyday I do the same chores.  I run the dishwasher every night, so I unload the dishwasher every morning.  This way, the dishes you use throughout the day can go right into the dishwasher.  No dishes in the sink.  EVER.

I also keep a very clean kitchen at all times.     I wipe down the counters and make sure everything is put away right after dinner, so the next morning it is nice and clean.

The other thing I do often is laundry, I do one load every OTHER day, and I wash the whites once a week.

Here is my cleaning schedule that works for me every week.

MONDAY – Wash linens (I wash everyone’s bedding, including the dogs beds and blankets) and I also give the dogs a bath.

You’re getting a bath Mollie, and so is your blanket.

My husband and I have all white bedding, so I wash and bleach the sheets to keep them super white, and then I wash the girls’ bedding, and then the dog’s blankets and beds in the washer.  So, three loads of laundry total.

I give the dogs a bath every week because they are inside dogs.  They are little, and they don’t shed, so it’s very easy to give them a bath and dry them.  The girls love to help me with this.

TUESDAY – Clean bathrooms – wipe down counters, clean sinks, empty trash, clean mirrors, clean showers and tubs.

I have been using this Mrs. Meyer’s All Purpose Cleaner in Geranium to clean all of the surfaces.  It is safe to use on my granite and my marble in the bathrooms, and it smells so good and leaves all of the counters clean.  I also spray this into the sinks and scrub them with a sponge.

To clean the toilets, I use a toilet cleaner without bleach (we have a septic tank and aren’t supposed to use bleach).  I also sometimes use my DIY Cleaners.

I use the all purpose spray to clean the tubs and showers as well.  If you do this once a week, they really won’t ever have time to get dirty.

For the mirrors, I use this glass cleaner and wipe down with a cloth.

I store everything in this caddy and bring it from room to room.

WEDNESDAY – FLOOR DAY.  Sweep, mop, and vacuum all floors.

We only have carpet in the bedrooms.  For the carpet, I use my Roomba.  This works very well on carpet.  I place it in the room that I want, and shut the door.  In just 10-15 minutes, it’s vacuumed perfectly, and I move it to the next room.

We call her Rosie.

I keep all of my sweepers on this track system in the garage.

For the rest of the house, I use a broom and just sweep.  I feel like it’s the easiest way.  I pick up the piles with this tiny vacuum that I got on Amazon.

I also use this to vacuum up my two rugs that we have in the living room and playroom.  That’s really all I use it for since I have my Roomba.

To mop, I use this Rubbermaid Mop System.

It has a refillable bottle that you can put any floor cleaner into (I use one cap of Fabuloso and fill the rest with water).  It has reusable, washable cloths that velcro to the bottom.  You squirt the cleaning solution out with the handle, mop it up, and then throw the cloth into the washer.  So simple and easy- and no waste.

THURSDAY  – Clean playroom and girls’ rooms (organize and put away things).

These rooms are clean, but not organized.  I put all of their toys away where they go and  clean up anything that may be on the floor. I also dust and make their beds.

FRIDAY – wipe down all windows, dust.

I use the glass cleaner to clean all of the windows in the house, and wipe down with a cloth.  I use this little swiffer duster to go around and dust everything in every room. My three year old Ashley loves to help me with this.

This may seem like a lot, but I like to do a little bit of cleaning each day, so that my house is always clean, and I don’t have to do everything in one day.  You’ll see that  if you do this every week, that you’ll barely have to do anything after awhile because everything pretty much stays clean.

I hope this post gave you some ideas and motivation to clean!

Fall Trend | Embroidery

A huge trend in fashion this season is embroidered flowers on clothing and accessories.  I personally really love this trend because I love flowers and this reminds me of the 90’s!  I remember buying  iron on patches at Gadzooks and putting them on things.  Here are some of my favorite embroidered pieces.

Ive talked about this sleeveless teal colored top with floral embroidery a ton recently on this blog, but I just LOVE it.  It comes in other colors, too.

Another top I love is this black cold shoulder tee with embroidered flower patches.  This is a little bit more dressy, and I love the placement of the embroidery.

Of course, these shorts I mentioned in my recent ZARA post.  I have been wearing these a ton, and they go with anything. They’re just a fancy version of denim shorts, but the high waisted distressed look just works with the roses.

For accessories, this little Topshop clutch is so perfect.  I have a full review and a “what’s in it” here. The embroidery is beautiful, and the pink studs give a little bit of edgy-ness. Love to wear this with a plain colored dress, or jeans and a white tee.

I am seeing embroidered shoes everywhere I go!  I have two shoe favorites here,  first are these little black velvet loafer flats with embroidery.  These are so freaking cute and are so perfect for transitioning to fall.  Similar style here.

Also, these denim wedges with the red rose embroidery are my favorite.  These remind me of the 50’s – something Sandy from Grease would wear!  They are so cute and comfy!  Similar styles here and here.

Do you like this floral embroidery trend?

Popsicle Stick Crafts

My girls love to make crafts with popsicle sticks.  I love them because they are cheap, they come in a big package, and the possibilities are endless!  We have made tons of things over the years with popsicle sticks, from holiday decorations to jewelry boxes!

These crafts that I have for you today are easy to do – both of my girls enjoyed making these and they are 3 and 6. They all use items that you probably already have around your house, too.  Enjoy!

1.  Emoji Sun

What you need:

  • Yellow paper
  • Yellow paint
  • Paintbrush
  • 3 popsicle sticks
  • Glue
  • Markers to decorate

First, paint the popsicle sticks yellow.

After they’re dry, glue them on top of the other to create the sun spikes.

Cut out a yellow circle and draw an emoji face on it.  Our favorite is the heart eyes one.  Glue that to the middle.

Decorate the spikes with markers or glitter.

Ashley wanted polka dots.

TA-DA!  A cute little sun.

2.  Popsicle Stick Popcorn

What you’ll need:

  • 9 popsicle sticks (we used the big ones)
  • Glue
  • Red, white, and yellow paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Cotton balls
  • Paper plate

First, line up seven popsicle sticks in a row vertically, and glue two popsicle sticks horizontally to hold them all together.  This is the back.

After the glue dries, flip it over and paint it alternating red and white.

After that dries, cut a paper plate in half and cut off the outside edge crinkles.

Glue the half circle shape to the back of your popsicle sticks.

Glue on your cotton balls.

Using yellow paint or a yellow marker, color in a little bit of yellow to make it look more like popcorn.

You can leave it like this, which is super cute on its own, but my 6 year old Allie wanted to make it look like Poppy Popcorn the Shopkin.  I think she did a great job!

3.  Popsicle Stick Picture Frame

What you’ll need:

  • Four Popsicle sticks
  • Glue
  • Any color paint of your choice
  • Paintbrush
  • Embellishments (jewels, buttons, etc)

Glue two popsicle sticks horizontally onto the back of two vertical popsicle sticks to form a square shape.

Paint them anyway you like.

After they dry, add your embellishments.

We added pictures and also glued a magnet to the back so we could put them on the fridge.

4.  American Flag

What you’ll need:

  • 8 popsicle sticks – we used 6 big and 2 little ones
  • Glue
  • Red, white, and blue paint
  • Paintbrush

Line up 6 popsicle sticks horizontally and glue two sticks vertically.

After that dries, paint them alternating red and white, but on the top 3 make sure you only go halfway.

Paint the leftover square blue.

Add white dots of paint to make the “stars”. You can use glitter or actual little stars.  Ashley just wanted to make dots.

This would be really cute to do on the 4th of July.

I hope you guys liked these and will try them out!
