KIDS | Clipboards for Chores and Reading + Book Recs From the Girls!

Hello! Today I am sharing my girls’ clipboard system that we use for their chores and reading. We aren’t on any kind of schedule since it is summer break, but I do like the girls to have set chores to do every day and also read every day. We also aren’t planning on returning to school in August, so we will be able to do these in addition to their distance learning.Hopefully these ideas can help you too!

I have these pink clipboards for them, and I hung them up in their playroom with some command hooks.

Chore Charts

Allie is 9 years old, so her chores are a little bit harder than Ashley’s, who is 6. These can give you some ideas for chores for your kids if they are about the same age.

Allie’s (9) :

  • Get dressed
  • Brush teeth
  • Wash face
  • Brush hair
  • Make bed
  • Clean up room
  • Feed Mollie
  • Help with unloading dishwasher
  • Help with laundry
  • Dust
  • Reading

Ashley’s (6) :

  • Get dressed
  • Brush teeth
  • Brush hair
  • Make bed
  • Clean up room
  • Let Mollie out
  • Give Mollie a treat
  • Empty hampers
  • Empty trash cans
  • Set table
  • Reading

The girls use a dry erase marker to check off their chores each day. They are given a weekly allowance for their chores, so they always do them.

Also attached to the clipboard are their Reading Logs. They are enrolled in the local library’s summer reading program, so they were given these maps to track their reading.

These maps would be so easy to create on your own, and a fun project to do with your kids! We plan on making our own after these are finished. Every time they read for twenty minutes, they get to color in a dot. The yellow dots are for reading, and the white dots can be for coding, helping in the kitchen, or playing outside. It is fun for them to get to the different spaces and they really enjoy this.

Here are the girls top recommendations for books. They both love to read, and have tons of books.

Allie’s favorite books are The Babysitter’s Club and the Candy Fairies series.

We have the entire Babysitter’s Club Little Sister (she’s already read all of those) and the Babysitter’s Club series saved from my childhood! She is currently reading the Babysitter’s Club books and loves them. She also loves the Candy Fairies series and has most of those.

For Ashley, she loves the Unicorn and Yeti series, and also the Phoebe and Her Unicorn series. These books have pictures, but are chapter books. She loves unicorns so I think that’s why she picked these.

I hope these ideas will help you if you want to implement a chore system or a reading incentive for your kids!
