EAT | 100 Hour Brownie Fail

I had seen these brownies going around on the internet and I had to try them! They are brownies that take 100 hours to make, and were supposed to be amazing. Here is the link to the original recipe.

Spoiler alert, they were not. They were extremely disappointing and did not taste good at all. I figured I would share the experience anyway though!

This will be my last post of the year, and I thank you for sticking with me through 2020! Just like 2020 was a fail, so were these brownies, haha!

Here’s hoping to a better 2021 🙂

What you need:

    2 sticks unsalted butter
    2 tbsp espresso powder
    Coffee ice cube
    4 eggs
    2 1/4 cup sugar
    1 tbsp vanilla
    1/2 cup cocoa powder
    1 tbsp salt
    12 oz dark chocolate
    1 1/2 cup flour

First, place your two sticks of butter into a saucepan and melt them. We are making brown butter, so we need to cook it until it slightly browns.

I learned after making this recipe that I do not like brown butter. It is very strange to me how much the taste changes when you brown it.

Next we added in the espresso powder, stirred it around and then added a coffee ice cube to it that we had prepared earlier.

We had a bunch of chunks in the pan after this, so we had to run the mixture through a strainer a few times. Fail.

We set this aside and combined our eggs, sugar, and vanilla.

After that, we sifted in our cocoa powder, 1 more tbsp of the espresso powder, and salt.

We mixed this up and then added the brown butter mixture.

As soon as I smelled this mixture, I knew we weren’t going to like these brownies. Very coffee and salty smelling. However, we kept going.

We melted about a 1/3 of the chocolate and added that in.

Next, we added our flour and combined.

Next we chopped up another 1/3 of the chocolate and added that to the batter.

Alright, now it’s time to add it to our greased, 9×13 pan, and you guessed it, add the rest of the chopped chocolate.

Again, the smell was off with these brownies. They didn’t smell good like normal brownies.

I covered them with plastic wrap and we were supposed to let them sit in the fridge for 3 days.

So here’s how they looked after 3 days.

On the third day, you take them out of the fridge, and cook them at 350 degrees for 30 min. Here’s how they looked after that.

After they cook, you are supposed to immediately take them out of the oven, wrap in foil, and put them in the freezer for 30 min.

After the 30 min, take them out and leave in fridge for another 24 hours.

Here is the final product.

They actually look delicious, but the taste and texture was awful. The taste was of espresso and salt. They weren’t sweet, and the texture was like playdoh. These were such a fail and a huge disappointment!

Good thing I had these on hand to make for my kiddos who had waited 4 days for brownies!! Haha

I think maybe this waiting period would make a normal brownie recipe more moist and chocolatey, but in this case, it did not.

So sad that these didn’t turn out! What did I do wrong?! Would you try these?

Thanks for reading, and see you next year!

Top 5 Best Books of 2020

This is my last post of 2020, and I’ve saved the best for last! My picks for best books of 2020. This was not hard for me to choose at all, I loved all of these books and want to recommend them to you!

5. Regretting You by Colleen Hoover

Colleen Hoover’s books are usually family drama/romance type books with some kind of twist. They aren’t my usual thrillers but I still love them. This one was no exception. It is about a woman who suddenly loses her husband in a car accident, and has a teenage daughter that she has to raise alone. Her and the daughter don’t get along too well, and she begins to find out secrets about her husband along the way.

4. Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

This book was so popular this year! It seems like everyone read it. It was a coming-of-age book about a girl who lived alone in a swamp, and about the events leading up to her living there alone. There was also a kind of murder mystery aspect to it. I could really see this book being made into a movie.

3. The Breakdown by B.A. Paris

This book is about a woman named Cass, who is driving late at night, in the rain, and through the woods. She passes by a stopped car and sees a woman inside who just stares at her. Later after arriving home, she hears that the woman she saw in the car has been murdered. She doesn’t want to tell her husband, because he didn’t want her taking that way home in the first place. She cannot stop thinking about the woman, and weird things start happening, she feels like she is being watched and also loses her memory.

This book totally surprised me at the end with its twist and I really love the books from this author. They are always suspenseful and good.

2. The Lost Man by Jane Harper

This book was really good! It was about two grown brothers who live on big sprawling properties in the outback. They find their third brother dead near an old stockman’s grave landmark. The whole book is them trying to figure out what happened to him, and what was going wrong in his life. There are some twists and turns along the way.

1. Before She Knew Him by Peter Swanson

This was my top book of 2020! Of course, a thriller with a huge twist! A girl named Hen and her husband move into a new house and go to meet their new neighbors. At their house, she sees a trophy with a name on it that she recognizes from researching a murder case that she used to be obsessed with. Something about her new neighbor seems off to her, and she wants to get to the bottom of it. This book was so good and had a big twist at the end! Loved it.

That’s it for my Top 5 Books of 2020! I look forward to reading some good ones in 2021.

Best of Beauty | 2020

Yay!!! Time for my favorite post of the year! The 2020 Best of Beauty. I will be showing you all of my top picks for this year; these are my most used products and all-time faves.

Let’s start with nail colors.

Essie Gel Couture is where it’s AT. Love the thick brush; it makes it super easy to apply! The colors I chose are both pink because it’s what I like.

First is Matter of Fiction. A very light, pale pink cream.

Next is a darker pink cream color with a hint of purple. PR Stunt.

Next, some lippies!

2020 was a gloss year for me! These are my two favorites; I love them both!

Marc Jacobs Sugar High, a rosy pink with a subtle shimmer, and NYX Butter Gloss in Vanilla Cream Pie, a bright cream pink! Both glosses are non-sticky, last on the lips, and feel nice and moisturizing. Here are swatches:

From l to r: Sugar High and Vanilla Cream Pie

There was one stand out hair product this year that I cannot live without!

This is the Ouai Leave In Conditioner. I spray this in after I wash and condition my hair. It smells AMAZING and leaves my hair so soft. It helps to protect from heat too.

Ok, now for some face makeup.

Of course Bare Minerals Original Foundation is my favorite foundation! It’s just the best, I’ve used it the whole year and there’s still a ton left. It gives the perfect light coverage and doesn’t feel heavy at all.

For concealer, I still love the Shape Tape, but Maybelline Fit Me concealer is my new fave. It’s less thick, not drying, and gives perfect skinlike coverage.

A new blush I started using this year is Bare Minerals Blush in Call My Blush. This is just a matte, natural, rosy colored blush that I love. The staying power on this blush is so good. Here’s a swatch:

Now, some eye makeup.

My most used palette this year was the Too Faced Natural Eye palette. This has the best neutral colors and I like the mix of shimmers and mattes. Here’s a close up.

The colors are pigmented and stay put. I feel like this palette is perfect!

For eyeliner, the Maybelline Tattoo Studio Gel Eyeliner Pencil in Bold Brown. This pencil has the best staying power in any pencil I’ve ever used! Even with makeup remover it doesn’t hardly budge! Love how dark brown it is and how it glides on smoothly.

Lastly, my favorite mascara, the L’Oréal Lash Paradise. This mascara is super black, keeps my lashes curled, and adds a ton of volume!

That’s it for my BEST OF BEAUTY!

Quarterly Empties | Products I’ve Used Up

Time for the last empties post of the year! I haven’t used up a whole lot this quarter, but there are some really good products here that I want to tell you about! Here they are.

Let’s start with some makeup.

I used up my favorite primer, the Bare Minerals Prime Time Original Primer. This gives a really smooth base for my powder foundation. It is clear and slick and I just pat a tiny bit into my t-zone area. This makes my foundation go on super smooth and I would definitely repurchase!

I used up two little sizes of the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I like this mascara a lot, but I wish the brush was just a little bit smaller. It is very big but it does give me huge voluminous lashes. I would not purchase this mascara because I feel like L’Oréal Lash Paradise is very similar and also I don’t like the name “Better Than Sex”. I have two girls that love to look at my makeup and can read!

I also used up a Tarte Shape Tape. This is my favorite concealer and lasts me a full year! I only use a tiny bit because a little bit goes a long way! This covers my dark circles and lasts all day. I asked for this for Christmas, so yes, I would repurchase!

Ok lastly, a blush! I used up a blush! This is Luminious Flush by Hourglass and I loved it. It was a sheer pink with a golden shimmer and it’s just gorgeous. I probably wouldn’t repurchase because these blushes are verrry pricey, but I did really love it!

For hair, my girls used up this Honest Detangler. I bought this solely for the scent, “sweet orange vanilla”. It smelled amazing, but didn’t do anything spectacular for detangling. I wouldn’t repurchase because I have other detanglers that I love more, like the Its A Ten.

For skincare, I used up a small size of this Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. I use this a few times a week on my skin, and I love the smoothness it gives. I feel like over time it has evened out my skin and really improved the texture. I have already purchased the big size.

Next, a physical exfoliant, the Yo Glow Wishful Enzyme Scrub. I didn’t like this, and it was very expensive. It was a white liquid that you apply and then scrub your face. It was supposed to scrub away the dead skin, but the product just pilled up on itself and did nothing for my skin at all. I wouldn’t recommend.

Lastly, a life changing product that I discovered this year, Revitalash. I got this for my birthday in August and used it for a few months every night. The difference in my lashes is amazing. Not only did it make them thicker, but they DID grow. I have asked for the large size of this for Christmas and I am excited to start using it again!

Alright, that’s it for the empties!

Thanks for reading xx

Reading Wrap Up | December

It’s already almost the end of the year, and I have my reviews for the month of December! These are all thrillers. Stay tuned for My Best Books of 2020 coming up in a few weeks!

The Last Mrs. Parrish – Liv Constantine

This one was really good! This is about a girl who sees this lady and her husband, and befriends them with the hopes of stealing her husband. They are rich and she envies their seemingly “perfect” life.

Someone Knows – Lisa Scottoline

I have read a few books from this author, and this one just kind of missed the mark for me. It was about a group of teenagers who played a game of Russian Roulette 20 years ago and were bound by a secret they all kept. This book was all over the place for me, I didn’t like the ending and it was hard to keep up with all of the characters. Wouldn’t really recommend this one.

The Third Wife – Lisa Jewell

Lisa Jewell is one of my favorite authors, I usually love all of her books! This one is about a lady named Maya who is killed by a bus. No one knows if it was an accident or on purpose. Her husband is devastated and is determined to find out what happened. He soon starts to find out that his life with Maya wasn’t so perfect after all.

That’s it for December’s reviews!

What have you been reading this month? Let me know in the comments!
