EAT | 100 Hour Brownie Fail

I had seen these brownies going around on the internet and I had to try them! They are brownies that take 100 hours to make, and were supposed to be amazing. Here is the link to the original recipe.

Spoiler alert, they were not. They were extremely disappointing and did not taste good at all. I figured I would share the experience anyway though!

This will be my last post of the year, and I thank you for sticking with me through 2020! Just like 2020 was a fail, so were these brownies, haha!

Here’s hoping to a better 2021 🙂

What you need:

    2 sticks unsalted butter
    2 tbsp espresso powder
    Coffee ice cube
    4 eggs
    2 1/4 cup sugar
    1 tbsp vanilla
    1/2 cup cocoa powder
    1 tbsp salt
    12 oz dark chocolate
    1 1/2 cup flour

First, place your two sticks of butter into a saucepan and melt them. We are making brown butter, so we need to cook it until it slightly browns.

I learned after making this recipe that I do not like brown butter. It is very strange to me how much the taste changes when you brown it.

Next we added in the espresso powder, stirred it around and then added a coffee ice cube to it that we had prepared earlier.

We had a bunch of chunks in the pan after this, so we had to run the mixture through a strainer a few times. Fail.

We set this aside and combined our eggs, sugar, and vanilla.

After that, we sifted in our cocoa powder, 1 more tbsp of the espresso powder, and salt.

We mixed this up and then added the brown butter mixture.

As soon as I smelled this mixture, I knew we weren’t going to like these brownies. Very coffee and salty smelling. However, we kept going.

We melted about a 1/3 of the chocolate and added that in.

Next, we added our flour and combined.

Next we chopped up another 1/3 of the chocolate and added that to the batter.

Alright, now it’s time to add it to our greased, 9×13 pan, and you guessed it, add the rest of the chopped chocolate.

Again, the smell was off with these brownies. They didn’t smell good like normal brownies.

I covered them with plastic wrap and we were supposed to let them sit in the fridge for 3 days.

So here’s how they looked after 3 days.

On the third day, you take them out of the fridge, and cook them at 350 degrees for 30 min. Here’s how they looked after that.

After they cook, you are supposed to immediately take them out of the oven, wrap in foil, and put them in the freezer for 30 min.

After the 30 min, take them out and leave in fridge for another 24 hours.

Here is the final product.

They actually look delicious, but the taste and texture was awful. The taste was of espresso and salt. They weren’t sweet, and the texture was like playdoh. These were such a fail and a huge disappointment!

Good thing I had these on hand to make for my kiddos who had waited 4 days for brownies!! Haha

I think maybe this waiting period would make a normal brownie recipe more moist and chocolatey, but in this case, it did not.

So sad that these didn’t turn out! What did I do wrong?! Would you try these?

Thanks for reading, and see you next year!

xx
