Friday Favorite – Maybelline Volum’ Express THE ROCKET Mascara

Hi Guys! Today’s favorite is a mascara that I have been using for about 6 months straight. This mascara is THE ROCKET by Maybelline.

20130718-151749.jpg

This mascara comes in a pretty blue and pink tube, and has a very big plastic bristle brush.

20130718-151837.jpg

I always use non-waterproof versions of mascara, I don’t usually have a problem with smudging, so I never buy waterproof…but there is a waterproof version for those of you who want to try it. I decided to try this mascara because I thought it was pretty, and because I love Maybelline mascaras. I just love mascaras with huge brushes. I have tried a lot of mascaras with small brushes, and I can never seem to get them to work for me. It seems like the mascaras with the big brushes always give me more volume and length.

I am on my third tube of this mascara, and I hope they never stop making it! It is very black, and you only need a couple of swipes for it to give you amazing volume! This mascara never smudges or flakes on me, and it stays in place all day. I would recommend curling your eyelashes prior to applying this, just like you should with all mascaras.

This mascara is very similar to Covergirl’s Lash Blast, Lash Blast Volume, and Clump Crusher mascaras. Those are also good mascaras, but not as good as THE ROCKET. The reason I like this mascara so much is because my lashes stay curled all day with this! Even after wearing it for 8 hours, it looks like I have just applied it.

BEFORE ROCKET:

AFTER ONE COAT OF ROCKET:

There is only one con to this mascara. It is somewhat difficult to remove. I have never had to work this hard to get a non-waterproof mascara off! Most mascaras will just come off with my facial cleanser, but not this one, I have to use makeup remover to get it off. What I do, is I take a cotton pad and my Sephora Cleanse Off Oil, and pump it onto the pad, and then hold the pad on my closed eye for a couple of seconds, and then gently wipe it away. This mascara is very fibrous, so you will see all of the little fibers coming off.

All in all, this is a great mascara, and you should check it out if you are in the market for a new one. It’s around $5, and is available at any drugstore!

AND…Always remember to toss your mascara after 3 months!

Thanks for reading; have a great weekend! 🙂

MAC Plumful Lipstick Dupe

20130714-172844.jpg
Hi everyone! Today I have another MAC lipstick dupe! Plumful is a pretty, pinky-plum color. It is a Lustre finish, which is my favorite finish of MAC lipsticks, because they are sheer and very shiny. This is a darker lip color then I usually wear, but you can make this lipstick sheer by just applying a little bit, or you can build it up to make it darker.

20130714-175632.jpg
I came across this Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in #463, Sassy Mauve. I thought that it looked similar to Plumful, so I swatched them, and they look pretty much the same!

20130714-180420.jpg

MAC Plumful on bottom, Revlon Super Lustrous in Sassy Mauve on top

20130714-180647.jpg
As you can tell in the swatch, Plumful looks a tad more pink, and it is also shinier. On the lips, you cannot tell one bit, though! Here it is on my lips, MAC Plumful on the top, Revlon Super lustrous in Sassy Mauve on the bottom. I put a tiny bit of clear gloss over the Sassy Mauve, and they look identical!

20130714-180849.jpg

These Revlon Super Lustrous Lipsticks can be found at any drugstore, and they probably have the biggest color selection of any other brand. Check them out next time you go to the drugstore! They are around $5, while MAC lipsticks are $15.

Hope you guys liked this post, and thanks for reading!

Mani Monday – Nail Strip Bonanza! How To!

20130712-200642.jpg

Hi Guys! So, as you can probably tell, I love nail strips. They are so fun, and very easy to do! They last and last, until you want to take them off. Today, I am going to demonstrate how to do them, and give you a tip on how you can get 2 manicures out of one box! Let’s get started!

The nail strips I’m going to use today are the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips in #520, Spring Fever.

20130712-201030.jpg

20130712-201048.jpg

Isn’t this design so cute and summery? LOVE! Here is what comes in the box:

20130712-201132.jpg

You get 2 little foil packets each containing 8 various-sized nail strips, an instruction booklet, a nail file, and a little orange stick for cleaning up cuticles and sides. Now, here is my top-secret tip. Put away one of the foil packets to save for later, because I am gonna show you how to do this manicure with just ONE of the packets! YAY!

Ok, so first, take off the foil backing on the packet.

20130712-202948.jpg

20130712-203019.jpg

Inside the packet, there are 8 various sized strips. Measure which strip goes on which finger, and lay them out in a row. Set aside the other 3 strips.

20130712-203216.jpg

Take the first strip, and peel off the plastic cover.

20130712-203514.jpg

Next, peel off the strip. It is sticky on the back, so be careful not to tear it.

20130712-203610.jpg

Place the nail strip on your nail.

20130712-203701.jpg

Fold the end of the strip over your nail, and gently tear it away.

20130712-203757.jpg

Here is what you will have left. Gently tear away the gray part of the strip, and use the other end on the same nail on your other hand!

20130712-203943.jpg

20130712-203957.jpg

20130712-204014.jpg

Now, just fold that end over and file off the excess of both nails.

20130712-204106.jpg

20130712-204117.jpg

Here is what you will have:

20130712-204149.jpg

Repeat this process on all of your other nails, and finish off with a topcoat. My favorite is China Glaze No Chip Topcoat.

20130712-204316.jpg

20130712-204330.jpg

And there you go! This manicure will last you a really long time! I usually get tired of it after a week, so I end up changing it, but it doesn’t chip or anything!

The only thing I don’t like about these strips are that once you open the foil packet, you have to use those strips or they will dry out. The 3 strips that you didn’t use just go to waste. I have tried saving them in a ziploc, but they always dry out. Too bad you can’t just save one for an accent nail or something. It’s great how you can get two manicures out of these boxes, though!

I hope you guys liked this demo, let me know if you have any questions! Thanks for reading, and have a great week!
