October FAVORITES

Hello!  It is the end of October, and I’ve got a few new favorites to share with you.  I’ve been loving everything from primer to coffee creamer!  Let’s get started.

Beauty faves.

First off, my nails.  You may remember my review on this nail color a while back – but I am still loving this it!  This is Essie Ballet Slippers and I haven’t been wearing anything else lately.  It is a sheer, natural looking (but put together and chic) nail color that is so pretty.  Review and pics here.

Next, something I also did a review on, the L’Oréal Lash Paradise Mascara.  Aside from the gorg packaging, this mascara is also really good.  It gives super volume and length, doesn’t flake, and it holds my curl all day.  Check out my review here.

Last for beauty, the Too Faced HangoveRX Replenishing Face Primer.  I really like to use this in the fall/winter months when it’s a little bit cooler (I live in Texas- so it’s not that cool) and the air is drier.  This has coconut water in it and is so hydrating.  It also smells sooo good.  It just gives me an extra layer of hydration aside from my moisturizer.  Love it.

It’s a Ten makes some of the best hair products, so when I saw this, I had to give it a go.  This is the It’s a Ten Miracle Blowdry Volumizer.  Like all of the It’s A Ten products, it does ten different things for your hair- protects from heat, adds volume, decreases blow dry time, etc., and this one really helps with the volume.  I apply this into my roots while my hair is damp and then blowdry like normal.  It gives me some volume, texture, and it smells great too!

Lastly, the Paula’s Choice Resist Triple Action Dark Spot Eraser.  I am a freckleface,  so I am used to having a lot of spots, but I have a few sun spots underneath my eyes that I wanted to lighten up.  I chose this product because it has hydroquinone; a skin bleaching agent.  This cream also has glycolic acid, which exfoliates.  So, over time, it will lighten the spots, and I have noticed they do look lighter since I’ve been using it.  I apply it every night before bed, and I  also haven’t noticed any peeling or dryness, so I really like it so far.

I’ve got a few non beauty faves, too.

If you know me…you know I love cleaning and organizing…and also Mrs. Meyers products.  This is a line of natural cleaners that smell so great and do a good job of cleaning.

This is my favorite product, the Multi-Surface Everyday Cleaner.  You can use this cleaner on ANYTHING, I use it on marble, granite, tile, wood, walls…it really is handy to have a product like this.  My favorite scent is Geranium, which is so fresh and floral, but I have recently been using the Apple Cider scent.  This scent is limited edition, and I had to stalk my Target to find it.  It smells so good and like a warm apple pie is baking in the oven.  What I like most about this stuff is that the smell lingers after you clean with it, and it makes the whole house smell good.

I’m not much of a Starbucks person, I prefer to make my coffee at home every morning, and I usually don’t like creamer in my coffee.  I pretty much make it black with a little sweetener in it…UNTIL I FOUND THIS.  I saw this at my local grocery store and I thought I’d try it.  It is the Coffee Mate Natural Bliss Coffee Creamer in Pumpkin Spice.  This is so good, and all you need is a little bit in your cup.  It adds a cinnamon spice flavor and is so good and cozy.  I love it.

That’s is for my favorites!  What have you been loving?

Rustic Farmhouse Decor | Fireplace / Gallery Wall

Hello!  A while ago, I posted a kitchen home decor post, and got a lot of positive feedback, so I decided to do another.  Today I am sharing my decor in the living room.

Our living room is pretty much the main part of our house.  It is a very large room, and it’s where we spend most of our time.

We have this giant tv cabinet that takes up almost a whole wall that my dad built for us.  I asked him to whitewash it (which I am obsessed with) and he built it perfectly and exactly how I wanted.

So, the first thing I did was to find a rug for the living room that I liked.  I knew I wanted it to be tan, white, gray…(no bright colors) so that it would go with everything.

This is what I chose, and I think it fits in perfectly.  It is very large – 8×10 ft, so it fits under our couch. It is very soft and I think the print is perfect.

After looking at pictures online and some inspiration from my friends (Kristina!) I decided to do a gallery wall above my couch.  I know that the key to doing a gallery wall is to have things that are all different shapes and sizes, and not to make it look perfect.  This is what I came up with.

So, the main piece here is this giant map.  The frame is a rustic gray wood, and the map looks kind of old and worn.  My husband and 6 year old really liked this, so we used this as our main piece.

On the left side, I found a pair of white antlers with some flower detail on them.

These are really a nice piece because they look kind of country, but the flowers make them pretty, too.  I love how the unique shape looks on the wall.  Underneath those, I found this photo frame that is a rustic wood color with room for an 8×10 picture.

I decided to use a picture that we took in St. Lucia on our honeymoon of the Pitons.  This photo adds some color, but is still neutral.  I like how it looks like the picture is floating in this frame.

On the other side, I knew I wanted a shelf to put little things on.

I found this small white shelf and added some little faux succulents, and a silver metal N that has a pretty lace like look to it.

Below that, I found this set of 3 gold circle shaped mirrors.  I love how these added a different shape to the wall, and I feel like they give a bit of modern/industrial feel.

I am so pleased at how this turned out, and it really adds interest to the room.

The fireplace is the first thing that you see when you enter the front door, so I really wanted to spruce it up.

On the top, I have a neutral colored floral canvas print, and a few birdcage looking lanterns.  I love these, and they are both a distressed white color.  I also have a candle and some little faux flowers.

On the bottom, I have a little basket with a blanket and a pillow that reads “let’s stay home”.  I think it gives a nice cozy feel to the fireplace.  Lastly, I have a big galvanized metal lantern that I just put a big candle in.

That’s it for my living room!  I love all of the neutrals and think it looks so cozy.

I hope I helped you find some inspiration for your home!

Rustic Farmhouse Decor | Tablescape and Kitchen

Hello!  Today I have a different type of post for you – about home decor.  I really love the “farmhouse” kind of a look in a home, with rustic looking wood and all the white. I thought it would be fun to share a little bit of inspiration!

We had our home custom built last year, so we were able to choose everything, and I chose as much white and lighter colors as I could. We live out in the country on a few acres, so I wanted a rustic (country but still glam) type of look.   Since we don’t have any homes very close to us, and don’t need blinds, I can use natural light.  I put up sheer curtains that I keep pulled back for decoration.

We have white stone on the exterior, a white stone fireplace to match, and white cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms. I just love the look of a clean crisp white home. The color of the walls is a white color with a teeny bit of peach to it, so it does look different against the baseboards.
As for the flooring, we have a medium toned brown stained concrete that really pops against all of the white, and adds to the rustic feel.  I love the shininess of stained concrete, and no grout to clean!

Here is our breakfast nook, where we eat all of our meals.  We have a big window here, so I put up a bronzed  colored rod and sheer curtains, same as the living room.  On each side, I found these wooden square pieces with floral designs in the middle. These have a natural white distressed look.

As for the table, it is a darker wood color with two chairs on one side and a bench on the other.

I found a burlap table runner and a round slice of wood, and added some pretty faux flowers, a candle, and this copper looking round piece.  I added a little ceramic white pumpkin to it for the fall season.  I like how the gold touches give it a little bit of glam.

I have a few things on the top of the cabinets, but I don’t like a cluttered kitchen, so I tend to not keep a whole lot on the countertops.

I have this white vase with sort of a filigree detail, a wooden sign that says family in galvanized metal, and an antique looking white birdcage.

On the other side of the kitchen, I have another vase, but this one is kind of a bronze color.  I also have this horse statue that was kind of random, but I liked that it was wood, and sort of country.  I then have a black sign that says CAFE, and then above the opening to the hallway, I have this N sign with whitewash wood and flower detail.

Some little accents I have on the counters are a few pictures of my girls, these really cute white lace looking salt and pepper shakers, and a letterboard that I like to change often.

We do have a bar underneath three pendant lights, and it is longer on one side than the other, so we decided that three barstools would be perfect.

The legs are a distressed light gray color, and the cushions are a tufted material in a tan color, verrry similar to our couch, so I thought they would go nicely here.

That’s it for my kitchen area!!  I love the way that it looks and I hope I was able to give you some inspiration if you like this type of decor.

POWER HOUR | Cleaning Routine + Best Supplies?

Hello!  Today I am going to be sharing my everyday cleaning routine, and showing my favorite gadgets and cleaning products.  I like to devote time every day to clean.  I find that I can get all of my chores done for the day in an hour – sometimes less if I move fast.

Everyday I do the same chores.  I run the dishwasher every night, so I unload the dishwasher every morning.  This way, the dishes you use throughout the day can go right into the dishwasher.  No dishes in the sink.  EVER.

I also keep a very clean kitchen at all times.     I wipe down the counters and make sure everything is put away right after dinner, so the next morning it is nice and clean.

The other thing I do often is laundry, I do one load every OTHER day, and I wash the whites once a week.

Here is my cleaning schedule that works for me every week.

MONDAY – Wash linens (I wash everyone’s bedding, including the dogs beds and blankets) and I also give the dogs a bath.

You’re getting a bath Mollie, and so is your blanket.

My husband and I have all white bedding, so I wash and bleach the sheets to keep them super white, and then I wash the girls’ bedding, and then the dog’s blankets and beds in the washer.  So, three loads of laundry total.

I give the dogs a bath every week because they are inside dogs.  They are little, and they don’t shed, so it’s very easy to give them a bath and dry them.  The girls love to help me with this.

TUESDAY – Clean bathrooms – wipe down counters, clean sinks, empty trash, clean mirrors, clean showers and tubs.

I have been using this Mrs. Meyer’s All Purpose Cleaner in Geranium to clean all of the surfaces.  It is safe to use on my granite and my marble in the bathrooms, and it smells so good and leaves all of the counters clean.  I also spray this into the sinks and scrub them with a sponge.

To clean the toilets, I use a toilet cleaner without bleach (we have a septic tank and aren’t supposed to use bleach).  I also sometimes use my DIY Cleaners.

I use the all purpose spray to clean the tubs and showers as well.  If you do this once a week, they really won’t ever have time to get dirty.

For the mirrors, I use this glass cleaner and wipe down with a cloth.

I store everything in this caddy and bring it from room to room.

WEDNESDAY – FLOOR DAY.  Sweep, mop, and vacuum all floors.

We only have carpet in the bedrooms.  For the carpet, I use my Roomba.  This works very well on carpet.  I place it in the room that I want, and shut the door.  In just 10-15 minutes, it’s vacuumed perfectly, and I move it to the next room.

We call her Rosie.

I keep all of my sweepers on this track system in the garage.

For the rest of the house, I use a broom and just sweep.  I feel like it’s the easiest way.  I pick up the piles with this tiny vacuum that I got on Amazon.

I also use this to vacuum up my two rugs that we have in the living room and playroom.  That’s really all I use it for since I have my Roomba.

To mop, I use this Rubbermaid Mop System.

It has a refillable bottle that you can put any floor cleaner into (I use one cap of Fabuloso and fill the rest with water).  It has reusable, washable cloths that velcro to the bottom.  You squirt the cleaning solution out with the handle, mop it up, and then throw the cloth into the washer.  So simple and easy- and no waste.

THURSDAY  – Clean playroom and girls’ rooms (organize and put away things).

These rooms are clean, but not organized.  I put all of their toys away where they go and  clean up anything that may be on the floor. I also dust and make their beds.

FRIDAY – wipe down all windows, dust.

I use the glass cleaner to clean all of the windows in the house, and wipe down with a cloth.  I use this little swiffer duster to go around and dust everything in every room. My three year old Ashley loves to help me with this.

This may seem like a lot, but I like to do a little bit of cleaning each day, so that my house is always clean, and I don’t have to do everything in one day.  You’ll see that  if you do this every week, that you’ll barely have to do anything after awhile because everything pretty much stays clean.

I hope this post gave you some ideas and motivation to clean!

Our New House in the Country | Bloggin’ Break

About a year ago, we moved back to our hometown in south Texas after living in Fort Worth for 3 years.  We are sooo glad to be back home with our families and friends, and have been in the process of building a home for the past 9 months.

We loved our home in Fort Worth, and had the plans to that home, so we found a custom builder here, worked up some new plans based off the old ones (with a few changes, but same floorplan!) and started the building process!

We found a lot with some acreage and a pretty view in the hill country. (our neighbors are cows)

We figured out which way we wanted the house to face.

Picked out EVERYTHING- outdoor and indoor colors and materials.

Got the frame up.

This will be our backyard.

Picked out some fixtures – my giant entry light!

Kitchen is almost done, and I LOVE it!

Working on the fireplace.

And the outside stone!

The house is almost complete, and we are moving in soon!

I will be taking a break from blogging to unpack and get the new house ready.  I can’t wait to set up my vanity space in the new house!

Thanks for reading and talk to you soon!
