Play! By Sephora | April 2016

Hey guys!  Today I’m bringing you the Play! By Sephora box for April. I am very happy with this month’s box, and there are a bunch of products that I’ve actually been really curious to try!  Let’s unbox!

Play! By Sephora is now open for subscriptions in all areas, so click here to get yours for only $10 a month!  Everyone gets the same products delivered, and it’s a great way to try out new things!

Here is the box for April.

NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien – this is probably familiar to most of you, because it was included in last year’s birthday gift for Sephora Beauty Insiders.  I used mine up very quickly when I got it, so I am very happy to see this again!  I love the rose pink color, and it goes on so creamy and smooth.  NARS products never disappoint.

Sephora Collection Colorful Cheek Ink Blush Gel in Peony – I have seen these in store and I’ve been wanting to try them out.  I love cream blushes, but I’ve never tried a gel before.  This looks like a really pretty and natural pink color, so I am anxious to see how this wears.

Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream – I was actually planning on purchasing this new eye cream from Clinique as soon as I finished my current eye cream, so I was happy to see this sample.  I LOVE Clinique skincare, and this is supposed to hydrate and brighten up the eye area.

Derek Lam 10 Crosby Perfume in 2am Kiss – this perfume smells so good.  This would be a really nice nighttime and date night scent, as it smells of dark Amber and has some caramelly sweetness.  I really like this!

Milk Makeup Sunshine Oil – this is another new line that Sephora recently began carrying.  This is a mutipurpose oil that you can use on your face, hair, skin, or anywhere that needs hydration.  This smells like citrus and I’m excited to try it!

Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment – not gonna lie, when I saw this product in the box, I gasped and grabbed it.  I have been wanting to try this FOREVER, but it’s over $100!  This is a treatment that is supposed to exfoliate and brighten up the skin, fade dark spots, and give a radiant complexion.  I will be trying this TONIGHT!

That’s it for April’s box!

Keep the good boxes coming Sephora 🙂

Too Faced SEMI-SWEET Chocolate Bar Palette Review + Swatches

I absolutely love Too Faced, they are probably my favorite brand out there because of their adorable packaging and amazing products.

Today we’re going to talk about the second of their chocolate bar palettes, this is the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette.

Just like the first Chocolate Bar Palette, this comes in a metal case with a magnetic closure.  The color of this case is a lighter brown than the original.  I feel like the magnetic case is really nice, durable, and helps prevent the shadows from breaking.

Here are all of them open, you can see that they all have very different colors.  They all have the delicious chocolate smell, and all of the names of the shadows are dessert-themed.  Love that.

I’ve already shown some love for the Chocolate Bar and Chocolate Bon Bon Palettes here and here, so today lets show some love for the Semi Sweet one!

As you can see, the shades in this palette are pretty warm toned.  Like the other two palettes, there is a mix of matte and shimmer shades.  There is also two larger highlight shades, which I love, because I tend to use those with any look I create.  Just like the other palettes, there are 16 shades total.  The shades are all creamy, soft, and easy to blend.

Here are the first eight shades.

Licorice– this is a standard matte black, and I love that this was included.  I like to use black to deepen up looks for a smoky eye.

Cocoa Chili- this is a medium toned brown with golden shimmer.  This is a really pretty lid color or a nice color to drag underneath the lower lashline.

Rum Raisin- this color is a lighter brown with some silvery shimmer.  This shade is really flattering as a lid color.

Coconut Creme- this color is a matte yellow toned highlight color that is a must for every look. I like to use a matte highlight for my browbone, but a shimmery highlight for my inner corners.  This palette has both, which is perfect.

Pink Sugar – this color is a very very light pink, it really doesn’t come off with any pink on the skin.  It is chock full of iridescent glitter, and it has such a pretty effect on the eyes.  I use this as a shadow topper or in the inner corners.

Mousse – this color is a matte medium toned brown that is more on the warm side.  I like to use this color to deepen up the crease, and it practically goes with any look.

Puddin’ – this is a deeper matte brown, and I like to use this to create deeper nighttime looks as an alternative to black.  This color also works for my eyebrows.

Caramel – I love this color!  This is a true, warm toned shimmery gold.  I love this underneath the lower lashline.

Here are swatches in order.

Here are the next eight.

Nougat– this one I like to use to lay down as a base after my primer.  This is a matte tan color, almost the same color as my skintone.  I find that when I lay this color down first, the other shadows blend really nicely on top.

Blueberry Swirl- this color looks blue in the pan, but actually comes off like a deep shimmery silver gray on me.

Bon Bon- this color is very similar to caramel, but a little bit lighter.  It isn’t as orangey, and it’s very pretty as a lid color.

Truffled – this is  deep matte brown, similar to puddin’, but more warm toned.  This is really nice for deepening up the crease or the outer v areas of the eyes.

Peanut Butter– this color is what inspired the new Peanut Butter and Jelly Palette that was just released.  This is a matte, orange-y brown that I LOVE for a warmer coppery eye look.

Butter Pecan– this is the other highlight color, and this is a champagne gold shimmer that is really pretty as an inner corner highlight, or even a lid color if you are doing a lighter eye look.

Hot Fudge – this is a deep brown (almost black) with golden shimmer.  I love this as liner or to really deepen up and smoke out a warm toned look.

Frosting– this color is a lighter shimmery brown, probably my favorite neutral lid color of the palette.

I think all of these shades are super wearable, and I think that you could create lots of different looks.  This palette is more on the warm toned side vs. the other two palettes, so if you like more warm tones, you will love this palette.

This palette currently retails for $49, and is available from Too Faced, Ulta, and Sephora.

Things I’m Loving | Personalized Jewelry

Lately, I have really been into wearing a lot of jewelry, especially bracelets.  I really like the look of customizable or engraveable jewelry, and the sentiment that goes along with it.  The best part is that you don’t have to spend a lot to get this look!  Here are some of my favorite pieces. I’ve talked about my Alex and Ani obsession before, and it’s still going strong.  They have these adjustable bangle bracelets that I love.  They come in gold or silver, and they come with a ton of different charms you can choose from.  I have two gold ones, one with an A and also with a Leo Zodiac sign.  I also have two from my mom – one with my birthstone (peridot) and one that says daughter.  I also have others with feathers and things that aren’t personalized.  They really do carry something for everyone, and these are such a great gift to give.  Check them out here.

I’ve also really been into cuffs, especially these thin, dainty cuffs from Fashioned By Hand on Etsy.  This shop engraves customizeable pieces at very affordable prices.  I have one that has my wedding date in Roman numerals, and one with my two girls’ names.  I love these, and they look so pretty stacked together or layered with other pieces.

I’m really not a necklace person at all, but I have been wearing a few things lately.  Of course, my nameplate (Carrie Bradshaw) necklace that I love from My Name Necklace is a must.  Also, I’ve been wearing my little gold disc necklace from Posh Mommy.  This necklace has my eldest daughter’s name (still have to get one with little sis’s name) and it has her birthstone (emerald) and birthday on the back.

I also love monograms, so I’ve been wearing this gold monogram necklace a ton lately.  This is a necklace I just happened upon at Nordstrom Rack, and it has three A’s on it.  This represents me and my two daughters, Allison and Ashley.  Funny enough, I bought this before Ashley was born, I knew she was a girl, and I knew I wanted to name her Ashley. 🙂

EAT | Glazed Lemon Pound Cake

Welcome to my 400th blog post!  Yay!!!  Today we celebrate…with cake!  This cake is so delicious, so refreshing, and so easy!  The perfect sweet summer treat.  Let’s get started 🙂

What you need:

  • 1 package softened cream cheese
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 package lemon cake mix
  • 4 eggs

GLAZE

  • 1 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1-2 tbsp milk

Beat cream cheese until smooth.
Add in eggs, milk, and cake mix.  Beat until combined for 2 minutes.

Pour into two 10 inch loaf pans, do not fill over halfway or they will overflow!
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Let cool for about 30 minutes and mix up glaze ingredients.  You may have to play with the mixture a little bit, and add more powdered sugar to it until you get the desired thickness.

Brand Focus : Sephora Collection

Next time you’re at your local Sephora store, don’t just walk by the Sephora Collection section, stop by and see what they have to offer!  There are so many good products from this “house brand”, and they are cheaper than most of the brands they carry.  Here are some of my favorites!

Sephora Collection Instant Nail Polish Remover for Glitter– this is a polish remover that you dip your finger into, and it magically removes the glitter polish off of your nails!  It has scratchy material in it that scrapes the glitter off.  I won’t attempt glitter removal any other way!

Sephora Collection Mud Mask Purifying and Mattifying – I did a full review on this mask here, and I just love it for deep pore cleansing or spot masking.  The smell is a little funky, but it works great and leaves my skin so clean and fresh.

Sephora Collection Rose Blotting Papers – I like to carry blotting papers in my bag for touch-ups, and these smell like freshly cut roses, which is my favorite scent! These absorb any oil on my face without removing my makeup.  Thanks Katie for getting these for me! 🙂

Sephora Collection Black Magic Makeup Remover Cloths (Set of 2) – I’ve also got a full review here for these magic cloths!  All you do is wet them with warm water, and they take off all of your makeup.  I love that they come in a two pack, and that they’re black, so they won’t get stained.  They are also machine washable!

Sephora Collection PRO Smoky Liner #24 Brush– this brush is such great quality, and is PERFECT for smudging out that lower lashline.  I use this almost every single time I do my eyes.

Sephora Collection Colorful Shadow and Liner Crayons – these jumbo shadow sticks are so creamy and so pigmented!  They come in over 30 shades and they last all day without creasing!  I like to use these as a shadow base or as a pop of color on my lower lashline.

Sephora Collection Radiant Luminizing Drops in Morning Light – these drops are an amazing dupe for the Becca ones.  This color in particular is a champagne gold that is beautiful!  It gives me that wet looking sheen, and brightens up my whole face.  I love this product.  If you are a highlight junkie (like me) and you gotta have that glow – you need this in your life.

Sephora Collection MicroSmooth Baked Luminizer in Stardust– this is also another bomb highlighting product!  The color of this is similar to Becca Pearl, but it has a gold-y sheen.  It is unlike any of my other highlight powders and it is so pretty.  It is super pigmented and I love it.

Sephora Collection Bronzer Powder in Anguilla – I was on the hunt for a matte warm toned bronzer for my pale skin that wasn’t too orange-y or too dark, and this one fits the bill.  I put this all over the perimeter of my face and it just makes me look alive and like I have some color to my skin. I love the packaging, too!

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain – these are really nice matte lip stains.  These colors, Always Red and Marvelous Mauve are my two faves.  They are so smooth and they last forever on my lips!

Here are some swatches of all of the products in order:
